"Dave Marsh is a gifted songwriter and his fixation on edgy pop rock has yielded the best record from Halifax’s over-30 set in years.. punk, glam rock, new wave and folk colliding beautifully...70s era Bowie are all over “Darling You, Nothing Else Matters” and “Move You Around.” " - Exclaim
"Perfect not-so perfect pop from the gritty heart and soul of some of the best bands to ever come out of Halifax, The True Love Rules is a slow-burning charmer by a great songwriter in Dave Marsh... composing one helluva debut. " - Radio 3 CBC
" ’60s rock, ’70s New York punk and ’80s power pop - to a sardonic future on Forsaken By the Beautiful People, modern love on the title track and Got No Kids of Our Own, and notably looks back at Prince Street’s infamous Backstreet Amusements video arcade on Backstreets Thread" - The Chronicle Herald
"pop gems, including Backstreets Thread and True Love Rules. Marsh is keen on experimenting, so there's the fascinating Move You Around, which features surf guitar and Eddie Cochran rockabilly, as it would have sounded on David Bowie's Low album. Nav Com Tav is a sailor chant-meets-Disney Halloween "
- Telegraph-Journal
" Dave Marsh Releases Debut Album - The True Love Rules was co-produced by Marsh and Joel Plaskett and features contributions from Peter Elkas, as well as Matt Murphy, Charles Austin, and Drew Yamada who are Marsh's bandmates in the band The Super Friendz. "

Bio
Dave Marshs debut solo recording, The True Love Rules, is a gritty, indie release full of honesty and attitude. The fact that Dave is a drummer at heart is evident in the solid rhythms that sit in the basement of each tune. His lyrics reflect timeless themes like true love, growing up and getting older, and facing difficult life questions, all while maintaining a wry and distinctive sense of humour. Combine the rhythm and language with Marshs strong sense of melody and you have a great record in your hands.
Daves experience with writing and performing spans over twenty years and half a dozen genres. His musical career has taken him across Canada, the US, throughout Europe and as far afield as Australia. He is a founding member of the Joel Plaskett Emergency, with whom he continues to record and perform, and he has married this enduring musical connection with his solo work by inviting Plaskett to co-produce his first solo recording.
The True Love Rules was written and recorded throughout 2007 in Halifax, Dartmouth and Sydney, Australia. Long time collaborators and friends contributed to several of the tracks with guest appearances led by Plaskett, The SuperFriendz, original Emergency bassist Tim Brennan, Cool Blue Halos Paul Boudreau, and Peter Elkas.
A Nova Scotia rock record that rolls like a modern classic, The True Love Rules rings bells like David Bowie, The Las, Guided By Voices, The Stooges, The Four Tops and Willie Nelson. From the discordant nostalgia of Backstreets Thread to the tuneful and mature confidence of Ill Let Them Know You Were Here, Daves songs are ferociously honest no matter what musical vein hes mining. Both optimistic and reflective, his lyrical playfulness and unique voice are what make this record special in todays overly polished musical climate.
