"Review in American Songwriter"

Long one of L.A.’s most beloved songwriters, Dave Morrison has made the album we’ve long waited for. In an often heartless world, this is music of the heart. Hear his warmly resonant, crystalline baritone singing “Times Like These” glazed with pure acoustic splendor and be nourished. Listen to his soulful singing of yearning for “oars in the current” in “Precious One” and be hopeful again. “Once Myself” is simultaneously sad and exultant, much like life. “Quartzsite” conjures mythic desert echoes of the West. There’s keen and gentle intelligence, humor, depth and compassion. But more than anything, there’s heart. He projects genuinely poignant details of real life in a way few can do with just words and music. With a stunning economy of language and visceral folk-rock feel, he paints dimensional pictures with a delicate blend of words and tunes. Mourn no more about the dearth of meaningful music. Listen to this.

"Great Songwriting For Times Like These"

Dave Morrison is a songwriter's songwriter, but that's nothing new. I've been hearing that from songwriters in the Los Angeles area for many years now who were also describing Dave as one of the great unrecorded songwriters in the area. Times change. Dave has released a great debut solo CD that surely lives up to its promise. More importantly, Dave conveys those songs on stage like he's been doing it his whole life, with passion, presence, and an irascible charm that will win over any audience. Great songs. Great CD. - Russ Paris, Russ & Julie's House Concerts

"Folkworld Magazine, France"

California based singer/songwriter Dave Morrison has published a new album with 14 self-crafted songs. The CD cover shows David leaving a house with his guitar box in the hand. There’s an advertisement on the wall saying House for Rent (Tenant has become delusional and wandered off…). “A little farther down the line” he grabs his guitar and starts to sing. Jacques Kerouac comes to my mind, on the road…
The CD starts with “Times like these”, a melodic song with great mandolin and violin playing. Dave’s singing is superb no matter if he sings the blues like on the romantic ballad “Halcyon days”, or silent folksongs like “Long Way Gone”. But he also rocks the floor with rhythmic songs like “Everywhere I go”. My favourite song is “Once myself”, a wonderful melodic tune with words full of reminiscence and melancholy. Morrison remembers his youth when watching youngsters living their life with passion, carpe diem… Morrison is an excellent songwriter and he shares his wonderful music with you. Hear the brilliant arrangements, the inspired musicians and Dave’s beautiful singing, and listen to the skilfully written words full of experience and thoughtfulness. May be you’ll agree with me. This is one of the best albums of the genre I’ve heard lately.

Dave Morrison is a storyteller. The fact that these mostly wonderful tales are set to music is an almost incidental but wecome bonus.

It's inevitable that he will draw comparisons with James Taylor, and given the West Coast connection(Morrison hails from LA), Jackson Browne, and the truth is that he probably fits somewhere between the two. Times Like These has the intelligent clarity of Taylor, while Everywhere I Go reflects the freedom and spirit of West Coast rock. To his credit, Dave Morrison apes neither and fills the gap with great originality and style.

Dave Morrison is a singer-songwriter in the best sense. His songs are not designed to be shoe-horned into a neat package. They are unique statements, and for its minor blemishes, A Little Farther Down the Line is on the whole a real gem.

Bio

For the usual reasons, Dave hasn't been able to tour much till recently. But now he's all in. His friends in California know that he's a special talent. American Songwriter magazine gave his last CD a five-star review, and a senior editor placed it in his top ten albums between Joni Mitchell and Springsteen. Onstage Dave brings a riveting focus to these intelligent, poetic songs.

"With his debut album 'A Little Farther Down The Line'. California songwriter Dave Morrison delivers a fine collection of songs rooted securely in an appealing blend of traditional Folk and the best of the 70's singer-songwriter genre. His voice and approach is natural, accessible and unaffected, as he weaves his stories with subtle lines and a mastery of language that delivers a lingering impact, which continues to yield resonant value with repeated listening.
Dave's songs explore themes of love, longing, dreams and everyday dilemmas, with a wisdom and perspective tempered by time and a sense of melody and hope-tinged melancholy that brings 70's songwriting icons to mind. A fine album, well worth the wait." ... Brett Perkins, Listening Room Concert Series
