Dave Schulz

BandRockPop

Touring vocalist/keyboardist for such diverse acts as Goo Goo Dolls, Berlin, and English Beat comes into his own with his debut solo effort entitled "Connect". Schulz's debut offers a musically and sonically diverse set of songs about connection in a disconnected world.

Biography

Music was a part of Dave Schulz’s life from the beginning. Born in Buffalo, NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. His father would seat him in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. His brother Robert would soon become a Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father’s passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and, of all things, DEVO. Not too bad for an 11 year old. He obviously made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 60000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. That experience sealed his fate. Where else do you get to open up for the Rolling Stones?

Since then Dave moved to Los Angeles, touring/performing/recording with a diverse array of artists running the musical spectrum: Goo Goo Dolls, Fuel, English Beat, Bran Van 3000, General Public, Berlin, Ryan Cabrera, Bo Diddley, Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers (Jerry Casale from DEVO’s solo project) Glenn Hughes, Bernard Fowler, One Tribe Nation, Phil Upchurch, Meleni, Fastball, The Rembrandts, Carmen and Camille, Hilary Hawn, When In Rome, Mesner, Michael Mccarthy and the Beautiful Fools, Last Conservative, Kristine W., Duke Graham, Daniel Morones, Derek Sholl, and Eric Sardinas. Dave also composes music for various TV and Film projects. In addition to his keyboard skills, Dave was recognized for his vocal and songwriting abilities in 2005 when The Los Angeles Music Awards nominated him for Male Vocalist of the Year. The Los Angeles “All Access Music Awards” also nominated him for both Pop/Rock Keyboardist of the Year and Song of the Year in 2006.

Dave was recently inducted into the
Buffalo Music Hall Of Fame 2008.

Dave leads a weekly Thursday residency at "Life on Wilshire" in Los Angeles, showcasing some of the top musicians in the area for a night of pure unadulterated funk and soul, called “Dave’s Living Room,” where the band is set up on the floor interacting with the audience.

Lyrics

Everything

Written By: Dave Schulz / Gretchen Schulz

It's so appealing when I see
That you might even talk about it
And so revealing when I realize
How everything could fade away
So people come together
Let’s get higher
Cause I believe there's something To be said for it
And do you ever wonder?

If you had everything
Would it mean everything?
Would you feel anything?

It's all around us and it's bearing
Down upon us and I'm sinking
A fog is thickening
It's tricking me
And I don't know which way to go
But I believe in love
And all it's taking
And I believe that love
Has not forsaken me
And do you ever wonder?

If you had everything
Would it mean everything?
Would you feel anything?
Would you give everything
Just to feel like anything?
Would it mean everything?

Fanatic

Written By: Dave Schulz / Steve DeMarchi

Another day a useless fight
Coming down to a single night
What can he say when all he has
Are the words of a common man
The secret life that they could share
Oh she’s unaware she doesn’t Know he’s even there

Spilled his rage on a page
Wrote in vain
(every night I hear you callin)
Wait for me stay for me pray for me
(promise I am no fanatic)

His own crusade became too much
He feels what he can’t touch
His silent prayer along the way
Lord make it real for just one day
Her other life behind
His empty stare
She’s unaware and if she knew she wouldn’t care

chorus 2x

Wrote “it’s a crime to
Leave this question unresolved
Show me a sign if you feel
Anything at all’

chorus

Say The Words

Written By: Dave Schulz / Steve DeMarchi

Tell me something that you’ve Never told me
Tell me something that you’ve Never dared
Don’t say the words
Don’t say the words
Cause I know soon you’ll be
Going away
And leave me here to face the World with empty hands
A simple sound is all I’ve known
Familiar ground will be
Suddenly strange
Don’t say the words cause I can’t Hear those words today

I’m not gonna take it
Cause your directions were wrong
Am I lost on a one way street
That goes on and on and on?
I’m not gonna take it
I said I’m not gonna take it
Your silence is bittersweet
Cause I know there’s something Wrong

Say the words don’t say the words
I guess there’s no use in trying to Explain
Cause if you’re there but you’re not There
Then who am I?
I should have seen the setting sun
Instead I dreamed that nothing Could change
Don’t say the words cause I can’t Hear those words today

And of in the distance I saw a Shooting star
Looked away and it disappeared
Was it ever there at all?

Stray

Written By: Dave Schulz / Steve DeMarchi

I thought maybe
You wouldn’t phase me
Now I found myself going crazy
For the rush of risking everything
Your cigarette lit and in a minute
Took my reality up in smoke with it
And nothin’s been the same

Stray till we find a way
Blurry we must stay to keep my World from crashin’
So if you hear me say
I lost your number
Clearly don’t think I’ve forgotten

Not open not broken
A story that remains unspoken
For another day

(Chorus)

Hey its about today
Forget tomorrow
Don’t think I can’t hear you cryin’

Stray blurry we must stay
(stay to keep my world from crashin)
Don’t think I can’t hear you cryin’
Stray blurry we must stay
(stay to keep my world from crashin’)
For another day

I thought maybe
You wouldn’t phase me
(for another day) 2x

Postcard

Written By: Dave Schulz / T. Linfitt

Sittin’ here I roll the dice
Believin’ in you
I ain’t never been so lonely
Nothin’ I can do
Ya know it fills my heart
Thinkin’ of you
You are my sweetness there ain’t Anything id rather do

Thinkin’ of you
Thinkin’ of you each and every day

Because I felt your love
From the very start
This must be heaven because
You never left my heart
Talkin’ laughin’ smilin’ all day long
I reach for my angel but
She seems to have gone
No...

Thinkin’ of you (angel) (thinkin')
Thinkin’ of you each and every day

I miss you like I love you
I feel you singin to my heart
Nobody takes me higher
It’s the way that I felt from the start
Sing to my heart

This is what love is I know its true
My soul, my heart
Wants to thank you too

Thinkin of you (angel) (thinkin')
Thinkin of you each and every day

Perfect Day

Written By: Dave Schulz / Steve DeMarchi

You stare with vacant eyes
Yesterday has no meaning
Drive for miles and miles
But your not closer this time
Whispers on the phone
You’re all alone with these feelings
Stronger than you

It’s a perfect day to be insane
Do you know I feel the same
And I never thought I’d see a day
Walkin home I lose my way

Have you been on your own
Still waiting to feel like someone
Have all the roads you’ve known
Led to cities of ice in desert sun
And buried in the sand
A shattered image of a land
Seen with eyes of a child

It’s a perfect day to be insane
Do you know I feel the same
And I never thought id see a day
Walkin home I lose my way

It’s a perfect day to be insane
Do you know I feel the same
On the static on the radio
Same old song a different way

Im in a space in between
The wine and truth
I can’t erase all I know
From all I knew
Forgot where I’m goin but
I ended up here with you

It’s a perfect day to be insane

I stare with vacant eyes
See behind the lies
Then I realize that its all illusion

Lovers

Written By: D. Cordrey

We were like lovers
I could tell from the start
We were just strangers
But you opened my heart
With a lifetime of memories and Nothing to lose
Not being close would have been Easy to do
But i can never look back at all
I can never move forward till
I let you run
When we were like lovers the World couldnt pull us apart

We were like lovers from
The first day we met
We were just children
Some kind of loose innocence
When trust slips away we Remember the pain
Leavin each other nothin to say
But i can never look back at all
I can never move forward
Till i deal with the past
When we were like lovers the World didnt matter to us

You can hold me forever you can Feel me right now
Hold me like lovers hold me Wherever you are

We were like lovers
I could tell from your touch
We were so nervous
Afraid of what we felt
With a lifetime of memories and Nothing to lose
Not being closer could be easy to do

But i could never give up i know
I could never move forward till
I let you go
When we were like lovers the World seemed to stop for a while

Oh but I could never look back at all
I could never move forward till i Learn from the past
When we were like lovers the World didn’t matter to us

Inside

Written By: D. Cordrey

whenever you need somebody
I’ll be right by your side
hold on for all that you’ve got
I’ll be with you
wherever you are hold on
you’re inside of me

baby hold on to all that you see
hold on I’m starting to bleed and I know
you are the one that makes me feel
baby hold on I’m down on my knees
hold on I can’t even breathe
hold on your inside of me

whenever you’re dreaming baby
I’ll be with you at night
I know how to keep your tears from falling
how to fill you with life just hold on
you’re inside of me
baby hold on

yeah…
never have to wake up and cry alone
never have to wake up
never have to wake up and cry
