This is by far the most grabbing male folk album to come through our doors in months. It's hard not to make comparisons to Paul Simon's more sensitive folk writing with a similar mix of warmth, open space, breathy vocals, innocence and a dewy, green clarity of intention." - CDBaby

Biography

Dave Tate - Biography

"He possesses the special kind of talent you only see come along once a decennium. If you're lucky." - Eric van Domburg Scipio of Haven Magazine

Dave Tate’s dynamic contemporary folk songwriting combines intimate finger-picked acoustic guitar, passionate vocals, and a myriad of poetic imagery to show how strong quiet can be. For the past ten years Dave Tate has been performing throughout the western states. A native of the red rock desert of Zion National Park, UT Tate’s music reflects the natural vast beauty of his homeland.

Tate started out playing in groups in Utah and Arizona doubling as a frontman on guitar and as a bassist. In 2000 Tate moved to Salt Lake City, UT where he began performing as a solo artist. After establishing a strong presence in the Salt Lake music scene, and recording two records. Tate turned his attention back to developing his craft and began studying classical voice. Over the next three years Tate held leading roles in several operas developing the range of his instrument. During that time Tate recorded four records, only one of which was released.

Tate’s persistence in refining his craft paid off. In 2006 Tate released The Solitude of Here, which CDBaby called “By far the most grabbing male folk album we’ve seen in months.” The album also received stunning press from the Netherlands. Folk Forum raved, “This masterpiece is worthy of a place in the singer/songwriter Hall of Fame,” and “You rarely come across a CD of such exquisite quality that you are entirely enthralled by it.” Encouraged by increasing interest, Tate uprooted moving to Portland, Oregon, where he finished his second self produced solo LP Home is in the Stars. Tate than returned to Salt Lake City as a solo artist, the front man of the group Dave Tate Music and in an acoustic duo. Tate built on the foundation he had started and once again established himself as a performing artist.

In January of 2007 Tate met Swedish songwriter Victoria Lagerström. Soon after meeting the two were married, recorded their first duo record The Same Heart (2007) and began to perform as a duo in the US. After living in Austin, Texas in 2007 and a embarking on a successful tour to the Netherlands, the duo returned to Tate’s southern Utah home to write and record their next duo CD. Tate and Lagerström now perform locally in Utah as well as touring nationally.

Fall to You

Written By: Dave Tate

Fall to You

What will you say when I go
Some things will fade, some will grow
I took my time, but than time was taking me
Had to leave you behind
And set myself free

I fall to you

Courage it takes to the road
She told me, “pack up your bags boy and go”
If I had to choose between you
You know just what I’d do
Cause in my mind your arms still hold me
And I fall to you

I fall to you

If there’s a chance we have it now
Than there’s a chance we’ll have it then
When the winding of my road
Brings me close to you again
All that I know is there’s a purpose
Much larger than the pain

I fall to you

Rainy Days

Written By: Dave Tate

Rainy Days

Rainy days I left
Come shine on me
And open up my door
There’s a consequence and I knew it
With my mind in that dark room
You save me
Angel

Out here
Where the wind makes no sound but the calling of your name
Fortunes fool
Jumping off your cliff again

I was young and whole when my world began to shatter
The crack undoes the egg
Living the mystery
Alone in this I travel
Let it take me to you
Grace

Out here
Where the wind makes no sound but the calling of your name
Fortunes fool
Jumping off your cliff again

You soothe me
And bring me to my senses
Smoothly
And soften my defenses
When I’m lonely child

Music

Music

Somewhere beyond the stars
We all exist in art
And we have come this far
But long to go …

There in the distance lies
Clearness in cloudy eyes
We fall, dissolve as night
Into gold

I love to sing and let it go

Music to soothe the soul
You can’t loose it
It’s part of you
You know

As we’re turning out
The world we live in breaks
And crashes down

And the one real voice in every soul
Gives itself unto the only road

This voice is one note of the whole

In this Music to soothe the soul
You can’t loose it
It’s part of you
You know

Cry out
The life is livid now

The life is living now

Play

Play
lyrics/music: Dave Tate

You and I
Two falling leaves
We change too much to hold on to things
Flying fast when your fires free
Yeah we sang so many sad songs
Goodbyes that last a life long
Learning to release

Chorus
There’s no time it takes to know me
Worry as you may
Every road leads to the same peace
Play and watch it fall away

Winter wind with your icy stay
I walk these streets of the memory
Feel her open up
Where the mask is cracked
The voice still whispers
For those who long to hear her

Chorus
There’s no time it takes to know me
Worry as you may
Every road leads to the same peace
Play and watch it fall
Play yeah it’s a play and I’m here to watch it all
Play and watch it fall away
