Lyrics

Remittance

Written By: Dave Verdick

He makes a vow
To love her forever
Bells ring as they're walking down the aisle
Six years later
She's out the door, moved far away
He walks into his new life with a smile

Walking down the path of life
You feel the pain, you feel the strife
And hope you weren't convicted of a crime
Our God forgives
It happens all again
Does it hurt so much the second time?

Turn around
Look over your shoulder
Can't you see what you have done?
Deja vu
I've seen it all before
Forgiveness often comes second to none

Promises of the soul are spoken
But far too often broken
And left hung out to dry
We can't forgive
It happens yet again
Does it hurt so much the second time?

Walking down the path of life
You feel the pain, you feel the strife
And hope you weren't convicted of a crime
Our God forgives
It happens all again
Does it hurt so much the second time?

You're There

Written By: Dave Verdick

Now that I've reached the bottom
There's nowhere left to turn
I've wasted all my assets
I've got nowhere to run
The walls fall down around me
My world begins to fold
You reach out to embrace me
Well I'm frightened by my blackened soul

But you're there
Your arms are opened wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
How can I deny it, the gift you've offered me
How am I worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

On Earth you paid the penalties
For all that I have done
You faced the wrath of millions
With the frail form of your Son

But you're there
Your arms are opened wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
How can I deny it, the gift you've offered me
How am I worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

Well now my transgressions have all been washed away
You've given me the freedom that I could not create
One dark and lonely morning you came into my life
You laid your hands upon me; you rescued me from strife
Though I still have failings your love is always there
In my bleakest moments you show me that you care

You're there
Your arms are open wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
No longer I deny it, the gift you've offered me
Never was worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

Settle For The Dirt

Written By: Joe Spitzer

If money is not my color
If riches are not to be for me
Then I will have to do without
And only live off what is free

The chasm is growing wider
Between the haves and have nots
Soon they’ll take this shirt off my back
The vultures will be casting lots

When the wealthy walk on by
And I am wearing this same old shirt
If they laugh and look down on me
I know I can deal with the hurt
If gold and silver are not on my person
Then I will settle for the dirt

Come together all you lowly ones
Standing on each other’s shoulders
We can fight the skyscraper set
The money lenders and bill holders

Come wallow with me in my meekness
To simpler ways we can revert
Forget the brokers who mistreat you
Let’s just settle for the dirt

When the wealthy walk on by
And I am wearing this same old shirt
If they laugh and look down on me
I know I can deal with the hurt
If gold and silver are not on my person
Then I will settle for the dirt

Using your talents for selfish gains
Knowledge and power you pervert
To your ways of using people
I will not ever, ever convert
Come fill your pockets with the dust
And we can settle for the dirt

Set List

Depends on the gig and whether I'm playing on my own or with others. If on my own - I do a mix of originals and covers. With other groups, typically covers of classic rock and jazz standards. Set length about one hour, usually two sets per gig.
