Biography

Dave Whaley is a Singer-Songwriter from Raleigh, North Carolina.  He started writing songs on guitar in High School, directly inspired by his guitar playing parents who sang and played for him throughout his childhood.

While attending college in the mountains of NC, Dave helped form a band called Grace.  Grace performed both covers and original songs (many penned by Dave).  After returning to the Raleigh area, Dave began performing solo acoustic gigs in the Triangle area.  Soon, he began putting together another band, which led to a recording project.

Released in 2005, Eudaimonia was recorded in Raleigh, and mixed and edited by renowned producer/engineer, Chris Stamey at Modern Recording in Chapel Hill.  Inspired by iconic songwriters like Van Morrison and Jackson Browne, as well as many of the artists of the burgeoning Americana scene of the 90s in the Triangle area, Eudaimonia is a reflection of Dave's love for acoustic-based roots music.

After a brief hiatus and move to Hawaii, Dave has reconnected with his passion for writing and performing, and is currently working on a new record.

Lyrics

Holdin On

Written By: Dave Whaley

I’m Holdin on to the highway
I’m still not satisfied where I’ve been
And I don’t know where I’m going now
But I’m justified movin on again

I take my time
I don’t look back
On this lonely ride
All the people that I meet
And I’m payin my dues, everyday
But its allright, its allright with me

Chorus -- Yeah, cause I’m Holdin on
I know where I wanna be
And you know my will
Is to keep Holdin on
And I don’t know if I’ll ever get my fill
But you know my will…

And the days go by so slowly
When you’re holdin on
To those voices that called out to you
And now I’m just restless here in my hometown
I’ve been leanin on
But I’ve cried out and I’ve reached out for this my whole life through

I take my time
I don’t look back
On this lonely ride
All the people that I meet
And I’m payin my dues, everyday
But its allright, its allright with me

Repeat Chorus

This Time

Written By: Dave Whaley

I’m stuck again with nowhere to go
But I’ve got Van the man on the radio
I can’t feel the pain of yesterday
A little rhythm to lift my soul
While the rain outside and the sunset soft and low
I’m caught once again and I want to stay

Can’t you feel it roll
It gets me everytime
I don’t know why I’m always losing all my self control
But I know it makes me feel alive, so alive…

Chorus – This time, I need it more everyday
This time, helps me get away, get away
This time, need it more and more everyday
This time, it helps me get away

Saturday I’ll go again
To play some music with my friends
I wish that I could end this lonely road
But next time is gonna bring me in
Then go and make me your best friend
But it’s just another rendevous with the overload

Can’t you feel it roll
It gets me everytime
I don’t know why I’m always losing all my self control
But I know it makes me feel alive, so alive…

Repeat Chorus

Slowdown

Written By: Dave Whaley

People everywhere
Won’t you come join in hand?
I know there’s love in the air
So come on catch the train while you can
And don’t worry
You’ve got to let your troubles fade away
There’s no need to justify
All the pain you feel today

And the sun
Is there to light your weary way
You may just be the one
Who can help somebody else
Let your real love shine
Never be afraid to show you care
Someday you will stand up
And stop feeling sorry for yourself

Chorus – and Slowdown
You know that you can
You know you can turn yourself around
Slowdown
You know that you can
You know you can turn yourself around

I know that it’s the same
Everywhere that you go
No one will stand next to you
And its all about who you know
But I won’t ask you where you’re coming from
If you don’t judge me
When you see me coming in
I’m just here to jam with you
I know that your struggling within

And the sun
Is there to light your weary way
You may just be the one
Who can help somebody else
Let your real love shine
Never be afraid to show you care
Someday you will stand up
And stop feeling sorry for yourself

Repeat Chorus
