Bio

Former Norah Jones bandmate Dave Wood has taken 8 strings and created a musical masterpiece!

8-string guitarist Dave Wood has taken a brilliant step forward. After years spent behind the scenes as a sideman in several successful bands, Dave has stepped into the spotlight and gives us all permission to escape the predictable rhythm and melodies to enter into the lush musical garden of Échappée.

Échappée means escape. Escaping musical boundaries, genres and titles that we are so anxious to embroider on everything new that we hear. From the first note, you feel transported to a place where indulgence is the only goal. As beautiful rich tones and textures dance through the air, you instantly become his captive audience until the very end.

Combining influences of jazz, rock and funk, Échappée delivers fresh sounds that tickle your senses and feeds your soul. Dave has performed in a wide variety of groups ranging from pop to experimental which has allowed him to keep his finger on the pulse on what is happening in music today.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music Dave was the given the opportunity to flaunt his skills. Working with the great pianist Steve Bach (S.Clarke, C.Corea) led to opening appearances for Stanley Jordan and Ramsey Lewis, and other performances with such legends as Eartha Kitt, The Fifth Dimension, Billy Davis, Jr., Petula Clark, Phyllis Diller and Valentino de Lorenzo. Working with such professional musicians Dave learned what it takes to put together incredible ensembles.

Working all the great music rooms in New York City, Dave knows the best players and put together an amazing cast for Échappée. On drums, Chris Michael, with a guest spot by Doug Clark on the title track, Dave Hertzberg on upright bass, Matt Shulman on trumpet, Andy Parsons on saxophone, Nick Mancini on vibes, Roland Satterwhite vocalist on Cannon Love, and Christian Howes on violin and viola.
