Bio

In 2009, Davey was gigging his solo acoustic material across the London tube map, and Benjy was driving up to the big smoke a few times a week with his 4 piece indie outfit. It wasn't until a September evening when Davey turned up to play at Benjy's Open Mic Night at Mariners Court in Leigh-on-Sea that they first met. The connection was instant, and they quickly bonded as compadres and musicians over travelling America, fast food, blues, rock, Jack White, the Big Lebowski and beards. They started to collaborate, initially Benjy playing Davey's solo material with him, but after several acoustic incarnations they decided to go electric.

Having tried a few different line-ups, they knew that a two-piece was the only format that was going to work for them. In November 2010, after a rehearsal in Davey's kitchen with an electric kit and a practice amp the first tradition was made - practice will always take less time than the actual gig. One more rip-roaring rehearsal later and they were ready for the stage.

First gig night - Bar Lambs in Westcliff was one venue, and a studio opening in Leigh was another. The atmosphere and performance was one of sweat, blood and tears, a blues-rock supernova went off and they immediately gained a following. 'Davey Hal & The Big Bow Wow' was born. And so was born another tradition - always play more than one gig in one night. They kept that up for a few more gigs than was healthy; sound checking at one venue, hopping in the van, setting up at another venue, shoot back to play at the first, etc. Long, long nights. For the first 9 months they were playing 80% covers and a few of their own songs. Over the last few months they've crafted - no - smashed, ripped, crunched, chewed up and spat out a set of their own, and have been testing it out in local venues.

From the very beginning the connection was so clear to the audience. They give everything to each and every performance, and it really shows. Every crunch of a chord and pound of the bass drum resonates with the crowd, and you can see, feel and smell they're giving all they've got, over and over again. When they've finished playing you can wring them out, and it's rare that they come off stage without having drawn blood from themselves, or one-another. Even most rehearsals end with mic stands on the floor or something being broken.

Davey's amp has been hit by a car (that the Big Bow Wow was driving), The Big Bow Wow has been hit by a car (that a friend was driving), bleeding fingers, fat lips, bloody knuckles, staf attacks and blown PA systems - the aural grenade these two chuck out for every show is loud and angry, and it goes off with a bang. You can't take your eyes off them, and your ears won't work properly for a good couple of days.
