Bio
The Los Angeles native always had a way with words, yet they weren't always paired with soulful samples and grungy drum kicks. Early on, David Allen Dope’s talent was manifested in the form of short stories and poetry. An affinity for vocabulary and literary technique, made his work standout to his teachers and peers alike. In middle school however, those paragraphs and stanzas evolved into freeform verses, varying from school subjects to goofy parodies. Over time he learned to structure his bars into song format. Following his parents’ divorce, the teenage emcees writings began to take a more ominous tone. The happy-go-lucky flows of fun and good times, then became commentary on the realities of the world around him. The one time hobby was now therapy, and a way to escape newly found family issues as well as the dangers surrounding the city’s nearly inescapable gang culture. Drugs and alcohol also helped numb the pain. As he dove deeper into the music, he withdrew from other aspects of his life. His grades slipped and he eventually dropped out of high school, only further convincing him that music was the key to his success. After brief attempt at Guthrie Job Corps, David Allen Dope relocated to Fort Worth, TX searching for a fresh start.
