Formed in the summer of 2008 in conjunction with the recording of Daves debut album Shot at the Sun, David Coffey & the Sonance is a new Richmond and NOVA based band that combines elements Indie Rock and Art Rock, with hints of experimental post rock here and there.
Dave, or DJ as many know him by, wrote 20 songs in an approximate six month period leading up to the recording of Shot at the Sun, those 20 were eventually narrowed down to ten. Dave teamed with Stephen and Rick to record the album, and at some point a band was formed in the process.
Dave, Stephen, and Rick are all singers and songwriters, each with ongoing projects outside of DC & the Sonance.
The music on Shot at the Sun can best be described as diverse and modern. Dave takes a variety of influences, from Sonic Youth, Wilco , Ted Leo, to the Foo Fighters and Nirvana. His voice is a blend of these influences, ranging from subtly soft to a primal scream.
