Momma Caught Me in the Act

Written By: David Cooper

V1 Momma knew by the cookie clues
A heist had taken place
Trace evidence was left behind
But the little thief had escaped
The cookie lid was left ajar
And cookie crumbs on momma’s bar
She caught me by my chubby arms
With chocolate chip smeared on my face

Ch1: Momma caught me in the act
My momma caught me in the act
My hands were in the cookie jar
When momma caught me in the act
A cookie crime had taken place
Trace evidence was on my face
You think I learned from my mistake
When momma caught me in the act

V2: Momma was waitin’ up for me
A light was burnin’ in the house
Peekin’ through the window pane
She was sleepin’ on the couch
Sneakin’ through the ole back door
Tip toein’ cross the hardwood floor
There was one ole squeaky board
And that’s the one my big foot found

Ch2: Momma caught me in the act
My momma caught me in the act
My hands weren’t in no cookie jar
Was a whole lot worse ‘N that
I had a purple hickey on my neck
And ole Milwaukee on my breath
My blue eyes were a blood shot red
When momma caught me in the act

Bridge: Momma stood there in her house coat
And began to preach to me
The same ole sermon that I heard
When I was only three

Buffalo's Breath

Written By: David M. Cooper

Buffalo’s Breath

V-1 I was chew’n some fat
Round a kerosene stove
It was snow’n outside
The Dog Bluff Trade’n Post
When I asked my friend Joe
Wonder what God really looks like
You could’ve heard a pin drop
When the red man began to describe

Ch. Buffalo’s Breath
On a cold winters morn’n
The amber glow of a firefly
On a hot summer night
Apple blossoms in spring
Falls rainbow of leaves
God’s a big purple mountain
Scraping a baby blue sky

V-2 God can’t be framed
And hung on the wall
No he’s too big for that
In a universe so small
Joe spoke in a whisper
Felt like I was sit’n in church
Cause it sounded like scripture
As he painted God with these words

Some Time to Go to Church

Written By: David M. Cooper

Some Time to Go to Church

V1 Mr. Morgan’s losin’ a fortune
His stores in town are closed today
He’s the richest man around
Got the first dollar that he made
Always busy on Sunday
It’s just another day of work
But this Sunday Mr. Morgan
Has found some time to go to church

Ch He’s arrivin’ in style
Ridin’ his last mile
In the back
Of a long black shiny hearse
Escorted by the Sheriff
Chauffeured to the curb
Mr. Morgan’s found
Some time to go to church

V2 I can smell the pretty flowers
And hear the tolling of a bell
I’m one of six men dressed in black
A yellow rose on each lapel
Who will carry his cold body
After the preacher reads a verse
Cause Mr. Morgan had to die
To find some time to go to church
