Bio

How Dominican Republican native David Florentino didn’t become a baseball player or Merengue superstar is anyone’s guess but we’re all the better for it. Instead, he became a singer/songwriter with a penchant for melodic piano/acoustic pop and soft rock tunes. Florentino was born and raised in the Dominican Republic until the sixth grade when his family relocated to Flower Mound, TX. A year later, he joined choir at the behest of one of his teachers who told him he had a nice voice. Since then, he has been expanding his musical horizons and accomplishing many of his musical goals. His work in local band The Grand Hotel, which he joined in his sophomore year in high school, caught the attention of many and the group enjoyed local fame before disbanding due to the members attending different colleges. Rather than rest on his laurels, Florentino began working on some solo material and hasn’t stopped since. Florentino’s music is romantic without being sappy or emo. His style is reminiscent of Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz channeling Eric Clapton and Boston. Imagine Chris Martin of Coldplay going solo as an acoustic act and you’ve got the right idea: handfuls of genuine emotion backed up by professional musicianship. His emotions show through in his music and many are moved by its strength. “I played a show one time,” he recalls, “and this lady came to me in tears and told me she was moved by my music and thanked me for playing that night.” “I want to say that my music in no way shape or form is influenced by drugs or any substance that may be known to ‘influence’ musicians,” he says. “I am also not just a young kid trying to get famous for the money and fame. I do this because I love music and this is my life.”
