"Unabashed Pop and proud of it."

"...you begin to appreciate the magnitude and effort of the record even more. Put simply, debut independent albums shouldn't sound this good."

Bio

Meet David Gillespie. Born in Australia, he grew up in Hong Kong and recently arrived back in Canada, leaving the long Australian summer on account of it being "time to get off the island" as he flippantly puts it. The result is a thoroughly messed up accent and a global village view on cultures and ideas. Oh, and music, which is why we're here. Spouting influences from Springsteen to Prince, David Gray to Dave Matthews, the result is an eclectic mix of styles that seemlessly blend from one to the other and which David is quite happy to simply label "pop". "I don't get precious about the boxes, the comparisons, the labelling. It's going to happen regardless," and here he laughs. "So if somebody says "He reminds me of James Blunt" that's fine, so long as they add "with a pulse!".

Moving to Canada to complete his sophmore release "The Long Goodbye", the process is one of stripping back the layers of his lush debut Out In The Real World ("4 stars - (debut indie releases) shouldn't sound this good!") to find something simpler, something more true. "Real World was very much the sum of my influences as everyone's debut is. The Long Goodbye feels more like me, but it's someone I'm only just getting to know. Believe me I'm as excited about figuring me out as anybody else!"

Now calling Canada home, he looks forward to shedding what has gone before, and delving deeper into what is to come. "A better songwriter without a doubt. I'm hoping the 'better man' part comes with time."
