Lyrics

Flickers

Written By: David Guy Evans

Two fine birds, we made a pair,
And bore bits of past to our nest:
Made a shelter ‘gainst the world,
lined it with our worst and best.
But winds blew us sep’rate ways,
Tho’ I’ve tried, I can’t forget.
As I’ve brooded on our missteps,
might have felt a flick’r of regret.

Quick as the flickers fly,
they’re here, then out of sight;
brief as a bashful smile,
or a kiss by candlelight.
Fragile as a single life,
hope hinges on a prayer;
wherever the flickers fly,
they go lighter than the air!

Feather soft, you touched my arm
with your casual fingertips.
As you read my half-surprise,
a smile flutter’d ‘cross your lips.
When we played tag with the tide,
old hopes, like the waves, did rise.
Later, as we warmed by the fire,
I thought love flicker’d in your eyes.

Quick as the flickers fly,
they’re here, then out of sight;
brief as a bashful smile,
or a kiss by candlelight.
Fragile as a single life,
hope hinges on a prayer;
wherever the flickers fly,
they go lighter than the air!

Quick as the flickers fly...
Quick as the flickers fly...

Wherever Love’s flickers fly~
quick as those flickers fly~
maybe they’ll migrate back someday.
I pray, they’ll migrate back my way.
