Seattle native David Hillman digs deep to lay down his furious concoction of traditional styles. Rock, alt-country, blues, and jazz, all take turns in his repertoire of rootsy originals that effectively cut through many musical denominations with a loose, soulful ease and high-energy delivery.

Biography

On his full-length debut “Americana Hour” singer/guitarist David Hillman takes a loose, bluesy, and soulful approach to several key American musical styles with energy and authenticity. Perfectly at home in the studio, a solo gig, or a date with a full band, Hillman fills up the room with a heated dedication to a mixture of traditional musical types, with his eye on completely entertaining an audience.

Live gigs feature tight 3-part vocal harmony, upright and electric bass from young performance major Olivia Hamilton, smooth drumming from Austin’s Tony Ramos, and solid duo guitar work from longtime friends Hillman and Mark Rachuna. Performances breathe with personality, verve and old-school showmanship, bringing to mind artists like Bobby Bare Jr., Tom Waits, John Spencer, and Jack White.

“Americana Hour” was recorded in 8 days at Studio Litho in Seattle by Floyd Reitsma and delivers twelve solid tracks of rock, alt-country, indie rock, blues, and roots music that should excite any fan that can appreciate artists who convincingly meddle with different genres.

In the first year of its release the album has received airplay on several Seattle area radio stations including KEXP FM 90.3, KBCS FM 91.3, and KCWU FM 88.1. David's new record has been featured on the weekly syndicated radio program "The Undiscovered Radio Network" and was also featured on "The Radar Report" on XM Satellite Radio's XMU (Channel 43). The record is currently in rotation on Clear Channel's "Undiscovered" (HD ch. 1009) and is receiving airplay overseas on stations in Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Norway. Also "Americana Hour" was featured in the quarterly album showcase put on by The Levee Breaking (www.theleveebreaking.com).

I've Said It Before

Written By: David Hillman

I’ve said it before girl I’ve loved you since that day I saw you burn burn down that old hotel

When you asked for a light I thought it was for your cigarette, not yet you said, it’s for this dynamite

After all those years the blisters and burns it never once was a concern that my heart is held in the hands of a pyromaniac

It was rainin flame sparks and such, so much, I’ve never ran, ran so fast in all of my life

The hospital stay was long, but you came everyday to sing me songs and to see if the fire-proof sheets would burn

I’ve said it before girl I’ve loved you since that day I saw you burn burn down that old hotel

Whats that smell? Hey it’s getting warm! Is that a fire alarm? Ohh girl, I love you so much I’m I’m so hot for you!

The Cowgirl With The Fifty Cats

Written By: David Hillman

Now I rake in my winnings Queens full of Jacks I pick up my old pool cue and some red wine in a sack I got a stack of dusty 78’s and my trusty velvet cap I’m on my way to see the Cowgirl with the 50 cats

Now she keeps all them kitties down at 23 Mason street two floors and a big fat porch is all she ever needs it’s chock full of books and paint rugs and kittens and laughs and I can’t wait to see the Cowgirl with the 50 cats

Now it won’t do to cause no fuss when she’s throwing sticks at your kids cause’ Tuesdays at three she has the cops for tea
it’s all been arranged you see

Now Don’t you mess around in her garden unless you want a rock right between your eyes and I hope you can hold your liquor cause you’re in for a big surprise She likes to crank up the Victrola and then make out on the sofa Ohh my heart’s beating fast for the Cowgirl with the 50 cats

Ohh now it won’t do to cause no fuss when she’s lighting up on the porch NO! Cause’ Tuesdays at three she has the cops for tea
It’s all been arranged you see

Now in the morning I locate my boots and rest of my attire I
Pick up my old pool cue and find my coat next to the fire
I leave a mushy poem or two and give the old Calico a pat
Ohhh and that’s why I love the Cowgirl with the 50 cats

Written By: David Hillman

Lake Matilda

Verse:
Mean ol dog mean ol man / duckin through the woods catch me if you can / No bark no bite no shotgun salt peppered on my ass / can keep me away from Lake Matilda’s big mouth bass

Verse:
She’s a mile or so from crazy Ethel’s leap / She’s a spring fed beauty only Twenty five feet deep / and where she drains into smarty creek there’s a Secret little spot / don’t tell no one we ain’t never gettin’ caught

Chorus:
Sweet ol Lake Matilda yer gonna be the death of me / sparklin blue eyed waters / such a lovely sight to see / ya got the biggest big mouth bass this side a bourbon barrell creek / Ohh Lake Matilda I’ll never leave you be

Verse:
Wake up now it’s gettin’ time to run / Rufus is a big ol dog and he ain’t no Fun / neither is Henry Jenkins with his double barrelled gun / I’ll be back Lake Matilda yer the one

Chorus:
Sweet ol Lake Matilda yer gonna be the death of me / sparklin blue eyed waters / such a lovely sight to see / ya got the biggest big mouth bass this side a bourbon barrell creek / Ohh Lake Matilda I’ll never leave you be

Chorus:
Good ol Lake Matilda is where I wanna drown / sparklin blue eyed waters / I’ll let them pull me down / whiskey and my fishin pole is all I ever need / Ohh Lake Matilda I’ll never leave you be / Ohh Lake Matilda I’ll never leave you be
