Hank on the Radio

© 2004 David James/Andrea C. Crimmins/Peter Renfree

Ten years ago I put my guitar away
Stuck it in the closet; left it there to stay
Somehow I'd lost the music in my soul
Then one day I heard Hank on the radio

And I wrote a little song
About a country boy who found his way back home
Of the lessons learned
From the sweet return to all the things he'd known
And the moral of the story is
Hold on to your dreams and don't let go...
Yeah, I owe it all to Hank on the radio
Hank on the radio

Well, I wrote it down and put it on CD
Mailed it all off to Nashville, Tennessee
And day by day I let my music flow
Then one day I heard Hank on the radio

And he sang a little song
About a country boy who found his way back home
Of the lessons learned
From the sweet return to all the things he'd known
And the moral of the story is
Hold on to your dreams and don't let go...
Yeah, I owe it all to Hank on the radio
Hank on the radio

Well, they called my name out; much to my surprise
Walked to the stage with teardrops in my eyes
And I shook the hand of the man who may not ever realize
That he gave me so much more than just a prize...

When he sang a little song
About a country boy who found his way back home
Of the lessons learned
From the sweet return to all the things he'd known
And the moral of the story is
Hold on to your dreams and don't let go...
Yeah, I owe it all to Hank on the radio

'Cos he sang a little song
About a country boy who found his way back home
Of the lessons learned
From the sweet return to all the things he'd known
And the moral of the story is
Hold on to your dreams and don't let go...
Yeah, I owe it all to Hank on the radio
Hank on the radio
I owe it all to Hank on the radio
Hank on the radio

Thanks Hank!

From the day we met I knew my life had just begun
I’m as sure about it as I am about the setting sun
My spirit sings a song of love for only you
A sweet melody, I wonder if you hear it too

Chorus:
Oh, I want you
I really want you, baby
I want you - right now

Honey, when we kiss I just fall completely in love again
I can barely move beneath this spell you’ve got me in
When I’m with you I’m more than what I used to be
Love grows in my heart and I hope that you can see

Chorus

Bridge (Instrumental)

There’s no way to tell you how the story ends for you and me
Will love conquer all, will we stand or fall upon our knees
You’re no Juliet, and baby I’m no Romeo
Love’s no fairytale but there is one thing that I do know

Oh, I want you
I really want you, baby
I want you - right now
Oh, I want you
I really want you, baby
I want you - right now
Oh, right now

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la

The Auctioneer's Waltz

The Auctioneer's Waltz

Unpublished Work © 2005 Rick Bailey, David James.

Who will place the first bid; for the ring made of gold
That she left in the hand; she once wanted to hold
And the house that one time; was a home that we shared
Filled with empty reminders; of a heart that once cared

Chorus:
Give me ten, give me twenty; make it one hundred tears
Won't you help me let go; of all those wasted years
Going once, going twice; please forgive me my faults
I'm just stumbling through The Auctioneer's Waltz

All the pictures of us; during happier times
Won't you take them away; let me leave them behind
And the bed where we lay; through the long lonely nights
Till she told me goodbye; and walked out of my life

Chorus

Bridge:
Now who'll take a chance on this broken down man
Put the pieces together; maybe nobody can...

Give me ten, give me twenty; make it one hundred tears
Won't you help me let go; of all those wasted years
Going once, going twice; please forgive me my faults
I'm just stumbling through The Auctioneers' Waltz

I'm dancing my way through The Auctioneer's Waltz

Heaven Help Both of Us (Duet)

Heaven Help Both of Us

Unpublished Work © 2005 Ronald Silverlight, David James.

In the middle of love's darkest hour
Sometimes two people just can't find the power
To bring the magic back into their hearts
When bitter words have left them far apart

Tonight I'm searching far beyond the stars
There's so much space between Venus and Mars
Oh how I hope that we can find the way
Back to the love of yesterday

Chorus:
Heaven Help Both Of Us......Heaven Help Both Of Us
Heaven Help Both Of Us......Heaven Help Both Of Us
Heaven help Both of Us

I still remember when our love was new
All of the little things that we would do
Like making promises and holding hands
Ready to give, we never made demands

I'm drawing hearts upon the window glass
Hoping the future holds more than the past
And praying baby, that you feel it too
The tie connecting me to you...oh

Chorus

Bridge:
All of the anger, all of the blame
Ooh, baby, it wouldn’t be the same
Without you here to help work this out
All the lonely nights so filled with doubt

Chorus

Heaven help us, baby

Oh, yeah

Yellow Brick Road

Written By: David James & DeAnn Sanders

Yellow Brick Road

Unpublished Work © 2005 David James, DeAnn Sanders.

It's three in the morning
All I hear is the phone
The voice on the other end
Had a strange, solemn tone
You'd been taken down in some foreign town
By a bullet in the night
I know you're not coming home
And a chill.... runs down my spine.

Chorus:
They say time heals all wounds
How in the world would they know?
Tell me where has our tomorrow gone
What happened to our Yellow Brick Road

With a rose in my hand,
These tears on your stone,
I'm not sure of this feeling
It's like half of me is gone
There's a chill on my skin
A quake in my heart
Million memories in my mind
And all this just tears me apart

Chorus

Will I ever be happy again
Maybe some peace I'll attain...
I'm just trying to make sense of this all
Will I always feel so much pain

Chorus

It's three in the morning; all I hear is the phone

Sweet Little Pony of Mine

Sweet Little Pony of Mine

Unpublished Work © 2006 David James, Maty Eitner

Yeah, you're a good one
You're the best one yet
Up in the trailer....
Now we're off to the vet
I know you're hurting
We'll see what's wrong
It won't be long

Here's you some sweet feed
While we wait for the doc
After all this time
You’re still standing like a rock
We're almost done here
Then we're heading back...
Back to the ranch

Chorus:
You're a small pony with the biggest of hearts
Twenty-one years, and you still know your part
Barrels and fences
You always came through just fine
You’re the one and the only
Sweet little pony of mine

Pass around pony
All the neighbor kids say
All summer long
They'd ride you all day
It's all bad news
It's the painful truth
Oh, how I'll miss you

Chorus

Instrumental Bridge

Repeat Chorus

You’re the one and the only
Sweet little pony of mine

I'm sure gonna miss you, boy (spoken)

It's My Life

It’s My Life

Unpublished Work © 2005 David James, DeAnn Sanders.

You read the papers
And you watch the news
Everybody fighting for the right to choose
Another person's fate

Writing petitions
And carrying signs
In all the madness its so hard to find
The love among the hate

Chorus:
You see we only have this one go through
That's all thats been given to me and you
In a world that can cut you like a knife
Start to finish its a one-act play
Maybe its time to stand up and say
Hey, thanks anyway... but it's my life

Who really knows
About the right or wrong
It's such a struggle just to get along
With your fellow man
Cause all of us
Are made of breath and bone
And each decision is ours alone
But we do the best we can

Chorus

My life....my choice
My heart....my voice
My tears...my face
My soul...God's grace

Chorus
Wrong or right... it's my life

What Can I Say

What Can I Say

Drivin' in my Chevy; gonna cruise all night
Playin' Marshall Tucker and feelin' all right
Sun’s goin' down, it's time to play
'Cause my baby left me...what can I say

Went to her house found a note on the door
Said she's leaving; she don't love me no more
So, I'm goin' downtown, gonna make it okay
'Cause my baby left me...what can I say

Don't feel like talkin'
Just get that jukebox a rockin'
Gonna two-step, jitterbug, cut myself a little rug
And do a little something shockin'...
Yeah, what can I say

Standing at the bar, there's a blue-eyed blonde
With a cowboy hat and her blue-jeans on
Gonna take her hand, dance the night away
Cause my baby left me...what can I say

Don't feel like talkin'
Just get that jukebox a rockin'
Gonna two-step, jitterbug, cut myself a little rug
And do a little something shockin'...
Yeah, what can I say

Drivin' in my Chevy; gonna cruise all night
Playin' Lynyrd Skynyrd and feelin' all right
Till the sun comes up, it's time to play
'Cause my baby left me...what can I say

My baby left me…my baby left me
My baby left me…she’s gone
My baby left me…what can I say

Wherever You Are

Written By: David James/Nicole McKenzie

Wherever You Are

Unpublished Work © 2006 Nicole McKenzie, David James.

Her life has been full of disaster; so much for happily ever after
When she was fourteen; they told her the news
There’d been a crash; her daddy didn’t pull through
She dropped to her knees; tears fell from her eyes
Her family and friends all ran to her side

Chorus:
You have to be strong; so try not to cry
Remember the good times; the pain will subside
No matter how long; no matter how far
He’ll be in your heart; wherever you are

Time goes on; she’s there with her mom
The doctor’s say that all hope is gone
There’s not much time left; the hours go by
Momma took her hand; and then said her goodbye

You have to be strong; so try not to cry
Remember the good times; the pain will subside
No matter how long; no matter how far
I’ll be in your heart; wherever you are

Bridge:
Love resides where the heart lies; she feels it every day
Her heart aching, her heart breaking; soon the pain will all melt away

Today’s the day that she’ll change her last name
His name and hers will both be the same
Their time is short; ‘cause he must leave for Iraq
To fight for his country; to fight for this land

You have to be strong; so try not to cry
Remember the good times; the pain will subside
No matter how long; no matter how far
He’ll be in your heart; wherever you are

You have to be strong; so try not to cry
Remember the good times; the pain will subside
No matter how long; no matter how far
He’ll always be with you; wherever you are
They’ll always be with you; wherever you are
Yes, they’ll always be with you; wherever you are

Mr. Right

Mr. Right

Unpublished Work © 2004 Cyndi McKeever, David James.

You say he's good for nothing
Stayin' out too late
Not home to do your biddin'
So your love has turned to hate

Chorus:
He came to me because he needed a friend
Someone to listen and to hold him again
So now you say you're gonna put up a fight
But you've done wrong for too long to Mr. Right
Mr. Right

What once brought you together
Are memories in the dust
Your heart keeps growing colder
And so has the will to trust

Chorus

Now that nights are cold
And your days are so long
It’s easy to remember
The times when love was young
Oh, he came to me because he needed a friend
Someone to listen and to hold him again
So now you say you're gonna put up a fight
But you've done wrong too long….

He came to me because he needed a friend
Someone to listen and to hold him again
So now you say you're gonna put up a fight
But you've done wrong for too long to Mr. Right

You’ve done wrong to Mr. Right
(Repeat)

Take You Home

Written By: David James

Take You Home

Unpublished Work © 2003 David James.

Sometimes my life seems easy
And sometimes it seems so complicated
There were times when I should have listened
To that inner voice, and I hesitated
Sometimes I feel so close; and sometimes I feel so far away
When I do; I can always hear you say

Chorus:
Pick yourself up and try again
You know I’ll always be your friend
I’ll be there when you roam
And I’ll be there to take you home

Sometimes it amazes me; the magnitude of your love
It’s unconditional, it’s pure; and it comes from above
The gift you gave to me; and the price, you had to pay
The inspiration you give; when I listen, I can hear you say

Chorus

Take You Home

I want to be with you; I want to come right now
You have shown me the way; oh yes, you have shown me how
In the stillness of the morning; in the silence of my day
The hope you give to me; I seem to hear you say

Chorus

Ooh oh, I’ll be there to take you home…
I’ll be there to take you home ……….(fade)

Time Has Come

Written By: David James/Thomas Payne

Time Has Come

Unpublished Work © 2003 - David James, Thomas Payne.

Clean air, blue sky; will they be here when I die?
Tall trees, white snow; will they be here when I go?
I look up, I look down; pollution in the air, pollution on the ground
I look left, I look right; There’s no relief in sight

Chorus:
Time has come; to make a plan
Time has come; to take a stand
Time has come; time has come

How long does it take; before we admit we made a mistake?
Listen now, can’t you hear; what the earth is screaming in your ear?
Sometimes I feel sad, and other times it makes me so mad
Don’t you know; it’s not too late?
Come on now my friends; don’t hesitate

Chorus

Bridge:
Ticking like a time bomb
Ready to blow
We're running out of time
Or didn't you know?
We've come a long way
Much longer for some
Now the time has come!

Look around, what do you see; factories and industry
Corporate greed running wild; what am I going to tell my child?
Look at us, what have we done; now everybody is on the run
Come on now, don’t run away; voices in unison have a say

Chorus

Oh, we’ve got to take a stand.
