David J Ashley from the band Polaradio introduces his own style of music. Decades of artistic influence are at work here, with a rock edge. you'll notice the modern, the classic standard, international, psychedelic, industrial... but mostly, a message of hope.

Biography

"Not easily defined," would be one way to describe David J Ashley and his music. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan was his childhood home. He has traveled the world, which has given him a wide perspective of music, life and faith.

Comparisons are quite diverse: David Bowie, Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails), Joe Cocker, James Taylor - a strange and eclectic mix. It's tough to pin down a 'he sounds like' statement. David grew up in a country music home and still finds favor with iconic country like Charlie Rich, Hank Williams or Johnny Cash and even some of the modern country artists like Big and Rich. Then, during his teenage years, he formed his first rock band and played a few gigs before enlisting in the Air Force. Through the years and travels, he's become a lover of most music. "I like it all... mostly... there's really very little music I don't enjoy... except music that promotes violence, hatred or is a constant spewing of vulgar insults to me isn't worthy of an ear," says David in reflection of what turns him on and off musically.

Growing up in the back woods gave him an appreciation for nature. You'll hear references to that in his music - the sounds of wind, water and other nature sounds are uniquely interwoven into this alternative rock style.

You'll find a spiritual overtone to his music, because his faith is at the core of who he is. Candidly speaking, David noted, "Look, I don't pretend to be a great or profound writer or musician... the best music to me is music that comes from the soul, from the heart and speaks to me right here, right now. When I write, it's usually about an emotion, an observation, maybe a significant event in my life... or the breaking of those things that hold me down." Ultimately, he hopes something in his music will cause positive changes.

His years dabbling in music has lead him to the highly anticipated release of his first solo project, David on Earth, released in July of 2008. Most recently, being associated with the band Polaradio has caused a renewed fever for writing and performing again.

Only One

Only One
c.2007 David J Ashley

I cry, I bleed
I fall down but you can't carry me
My pain, you win
Seventy times, seven more times forgive

There's love
In awe of the Only One
There's Only One, my love
My tears, your shame
Turn your face, I can take the blame
Unbound, set free
Someday when nothing else will be

There's love
In awe of the Only One
There's Only One, my love

When World's Collide

Worlds Collide
c. 2008 David Ashley

I took my chances
I paid my dues
I dove in deep
When I knew I would Loose
I would loose

Like oil and water
A desert tide
A sure disaster
When two world's collide
Worlds collide

Worlds collide
Worlds collide
You'll loose your life
When two worlds collide

Shroud of darkness
Meet morning star
Can't avoid it
Doesn't matter who you are
Who you are

It's black and white
Pick your side
You'll see what happens
When two worlds collide
Worlds collide

Worlds collide
Worlds collide
You'll loose your life
When two worlds collide

It Should

It Should
c.2008 David Ashley

I'm on my second wind
Wishing you back again
But maybe deep inside
I know I've had my time with you

Clock ticking on the wall
Ran past your final call
Like nothings happening
Meanwhile my heart is breaking

Take me back one more time
To the place where we were fine
And tomorrow's looking good
Just like it should

And now I face the day
Not sure I'll find my way
There's hope in everything
That's what they're telling me

It hasn't been that long
My heart is feeling numb
Staring off into space
I know I'll find a better place

Take me back one more time
To the place where we were fine
And tomorrow's looking good
Just like it should

It's Time

It's Time
c. 2008 David Ashley

It's time
To bow your head down
It's time
to get your faith on
It's time
Undo what you've done
It's time

I know you feel this
It's kinda strange
It's not your typical
Loose life play games

But don't you fear it
You're getting near it
Come feel the light of the
One way take flight

You're not a number
I made your soul
Don't you wonder what
I made you for

I hear you breaking
You're coming down
Knees are shaking
It won't be too long

c.2008 David Ashley

Some days I pray a little harder
Than the day before
some nights I dream about you longer
And I miss you more
I can't escape
No matter how much I try
There's no more answers
If I question why

But I'll take it
I'm going to make it
I'm going to be home someday

This heart is broken but it's mending
Day by day it seems
And time won't treat this like it's ending
Though it ought to be
I won't forget
Look me straight in the eye
I keep my hope in the One
And the last arise

And I'll take it
I'm going to make it
I'm going to be home someday
