Biography

David Lewis Morgan is a singer/songwriter & guitarist in Austin, Texas. From his roots in Georgia & South Carolina, his journey to the beautiful Texas Hill Country began as a Navy brat, traveling all over America & around the world. His musical education began on a ship returning from the Orient, 500 miles out in the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco when the ships’ radio began to pick up American radio stations & he heard the Beatles for the first time. Surfing, rock & roll & playing sports were among his favorite things growing up. He attended Bullis Prep School in Maryland, the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, & the University of South Florida in Tampa.

His musical influences range from the 50's to the 80's & beyond, from Elvis to the Motown sound to rock icons like the Allman Brothers, Blind Faith, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, the Eagles, the Grateful Dead, Loggins & Messina & the Dubie Brothers. He started playing guitar in high school, & wrote his first song, “Last Thing on My Mind” in 1986. His song “Great Spirit” made it to the finals in the 2006 International Songwriting Contest, which had over 14,000 entries worldwide, & two more, "Our Planet Earth" & "Sittin' On A Wishin' Well", took Third & Fourth Place wins in the Austin Songwriters Group’s 2007 Song Contest. His song, "Cabo Nights" was a finalist in the ASG 2006 Song Contest. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Austin Songwriters Group (ASG), co-hosts the Texas Songwriters in the Round (TSR) monthly show in Llano, Texas, & spends his time raising his son, writing & playing guitar, & gigging in Austin & the Hill Country. His goals are simple & focused: be a great dad, make a difference in his community, be a part of the solution on Planet Earth, & write some really good songs to sing for the entire world to hear.

Lyrics

Great Spirit

Written By: David Lewis Morgan

Great Spirit of the Universe,
whose face I do not know
Let me feel your loving grace,
and help this feeling grow
Give me faith, to still my fears,
to set my spirit free
Help me trust in you, my friend
Whose face I cannot see

Great Spirit of the Universe,
whose face I do not know
Pour your love into my heart;
let my fear and anger go
Give me strength to bear the weight
For the courage to be free
Give me hope to fill my soul
Be the soul you’d have me be

Great Spirit of the Universe,
whose face I do not know
Take me up into your arms;
give me comfort to my soul
Show me the way into the night
Reveal your will to me
Engulf me in your light
Illuminate your love for me

Our Planet Earth

Written By: David Lewis Morgan

[1st Verse]
Marooned and lost, with spirits drowned
Foundering vessels run aground
On islands of captivity
Competing warriors cynically
With poker cards held close to vest
Toss honor in to win the quest
A sea of strangers all around
Our Planet Earth is melting down.

[2nd Verse]
Consuming life so desperately
Seeking fortune to be free
But freedom stays just out of reach
A stranded vessel on the beach
The years go by, our dreams they fade
Imprisoned by the fortunes made
Abandoned hope is lost at sea
Our Planet Earth cries helplessly.

[Bridge]
Illusions of reality
The children lost into the sea
Collective mediocrity
Consuming creativity

[3rd Verse]
As twilight fades we come to be
Shattered vessels on the sea.
While bailing our dichotomy,
We jettison our vanity
So give your souls and you'll be sound.
Lift up your hearts. Spread them around.
What once was lost can now be found.
Our Planet Earth can now rebound.

[Refrain]
So give your souls and you'll be sound.
Lift up your hearts. Spread them around.
What once was lost can now be found.
Our Planet Earth will turn around.

You Don’t Know My Heart

Written By: David Lewis Morgan

[1st Verse]
Lone Star Diner… by the old stone bank… on Main Street yesterday…..
Rumor… said the waitress… called you by your maiden name…..
When we met on market square you smiled contagiously
My thoughts were clear, but words eluded me

[Chorus]
You don't know
You don't know
You don't know my heart

[2nd Verse]
Last I saw your pretty face, you came to say goodbye
A wedding band upon your hand, I hid my heart inside
Hoping maybe someday, your plans just might fall through
My thoughts were clear, but I couldn’t say to you…………
[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Remembering the day you left our sleepy little town
I heard you say you’d miss the most…… having me around…… baby,
[Chorus]

[3rd Verse]
…… If we meet again in town ‘round supper time
Maybe, on the street again by the corner five-and-dime
I'll ask you out for coffee, a talk way overdue
I'll clear my thoughts and say these words to you…………

[Chorus] (X2)

Would You Love Me If You Knew

Written By: David Lewis Morgan

[1st Verse]
Would you love me if you knew……..I’m not the man you think I’m am
I’m just a little kid inside……………….. My heart is breakin’ over you
If I could see beyond today……………. a crystal ball to gaze into
Would you be with me all my days? Would you love me if you knew?

[Chorus]
Would you love me if you knew……….the little kid within my heart?
Would you turn and walk away……. or say we’ll never be apart?
The little kid inside of me…………….. will always be in love with you
You’ll always be here in my heart…… Would you love me if you knew?

[SOLO]

[2nd Verse]
Would you love me if you knew……..the man I’ve come to be
Is like a scared little kid…………………. when I get next to you?
If I could gaze into your eyes…………. whisper words of love so true
Do I dare to share my heart? Would you love me if you knew?

[Chorus]

[Reprise]
You’ll always be here in my heart. Would you love me if you knew?
