"International Songwriting Competition"

"David, We are pleased to inform you your inspirational song "Great Spirit," has advanced to the next round of judging for the 2006 International Songwriting Competition. With over 14,000 songs entered, making it this far is a great accomplishment and testament to your songwriting talent."

"GCR Staff Writer Search"

Thank you for entering your song in the GCR Staff Writer Search. There were so many great songs from all genres. This was truly the hardest decision my staff and I have ever had to make. Lots of times it simply came down to ballot voting. As well as a lot of long monologues about why this writer should win over another. Congratulations on making the top 10 out of around 450 submissions, but at this time we could only pick one winner. - GCR Staff Writer Search

Bio

David Lewis Morgan is a singer/songwriter & guitarist in Austin, Texas. From his roots in Georgia & South Carolina, his journey to the beautiful Texas Hill Country began as a Navy brat, traveling all over America & around the world. His musical education began on a ship returning from the Orient, 500 miles out in the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco when the ships’ radio began to pick up American radio stations & he heard the Beatles for the first time. Surfing, rock & roll & playing sports were among his favorite things growing up. He attended Bullis Prep School in Maryland, the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, & the University of South Florida in Tampa.

His musical influences range from the 50's to the 80's & beyond, from Elvis to the Motown sound to rock icons like the Allman Brothers, Blind Faith, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, the Eagles, the Grateful Dead, Loggins & Messina & the Dubie Brothers. He started playing guitar in high school, & wrote his first song, “Last Thing on My Mind” in 1986. His song “Great Spirit” made it to the finals in the 2006 International Songwriting Contest, which had over 14,000 entries worldwide, & two more, "Our Planet Earth" & "Sittin' On A Wishin' Well", took Third & Fourth Place wins in the Austin Songwriters Group’s 2007 Song Contest. His song, "Cabo Nights" was a finalist in the ASG 2006 Song Contest. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Austin Songwriters Group (ASG), co-hosts the Texas Songwriters in the Round (TSR) monthly show in Llano, Texas, & spends his time raising his son, writing & playing guitar, & gigging in Austin & the Hill Country. His goals are simple & focused: be a great dad, make a difference in his community, be a part of the solution on Planet Earth, & write some really good songs to sing for the entire world to hear.
