Bright Side of the Bed

Written By: david m. nelson

Nuka tuptu, Nuka tuptu, Nuka tuptu
lolamatalonga unqhata (Hopi)
I get up, I get up, I get up
on the bright side of the bed.
Who do I want to be?
I want to be me.
And who can make me happy?
I can make me happy.
I can be so strong to smile,
you can see my smile a mile.

Nuka tuptu, Nuka tuptu, Nuka tuptu
lolamatalonga unqhata (Hopi)
I get up, I get up, I get up
on the bright side of the bed.
Who do I want to be?
I want to be me.
And who can make me happy?
I can make me happy.
I can be so strong to smile,
you can see my smile a mile.
I can be so strong to cry,
you can hear my cry a mile.
I can be so strong to laugh,
you can hear my laugh from over there.
I can be so strong to care,
you can hear it from over there.
I can be so strong to giggle,
you can see me wiggle when I giggle.
I can be so strong to smile,
you can see my smile a mile.

Our Ancestors

Written By: david m. nelson

It's only natural wondering
where did I come from
and where am I going?

What's the meaning of it all
spinning on this earthly ball
amongst all the billions
of other space balls spinning?

My ancestors, your ancestors
are smiling in heaven
sending us blessings.
Our ancestors hopes and prayers
now are in our care.
They'd want peace and joy for all
just listen to your heart.

May wise teachers share wisdom
of where we are at this moment.
It's said deep inside us dwells a map
radiating where we're at;
simply follow
your compassionate breath.

In brief, silent moments
I glimpse understanding.

My ancestors, your ancestors
are smiling in heaven
sending us blessings.
In hard life times
letting their lives shine;
doing the best they could
but this ball spins so quickly.
Our ancestors hopes and prayers
now are in our care.
They'd want peace and joy for all
just as we want for our children.
