Bio

On October 17th 1984 David Record was born in Ottawa, Ontario. At a few months old the Record family moved to Toronto before settling in Brampton. At ten years old David was already heavily consumed by music and rap battles were an everyday part of life. Using his exciting demeanor and witful lyrics he picked up off battling friends on the street, David Record won his first professional battle for $500 at Humber College in front of many by taking down every opponent on the list, being very entertaining and having the crowd going wild.

By the age of seventeen he surpassed selling tapes of his recorded songs for $5 to selling his own CD Mix-tape called “Knowledge” for $10. Many songs off this CD were played on the radio in steady rotation on CKLN Radio which helped build a buzz around David Record as one of the hottest upcoming MC’s in Toronto. David has shared the stage with the Icon Rita Marley in 2010. He has performed in front of thousands bringing down the house and had fans searching the internet for more. Currently David Record has recorded and is now promoting his most recent album called “Rise Again” which is dedicated to uplift his audience. Rise Again was released July 2nd 2011.

As always David Record was thinking outside of the box and decided to hold his album release party outdoors at Square Gardens, Rose Theatre. He gave an opportunity for other upcoming artist to perform. The audience came from all different cities in the GTA. Many media outlets also came out, to celebrate and take interviews and pictures. Rogers TV was one of the invited media that filmed the party, interviewed David as well as others. The footage was televised on Peel Access. Brampton Guardian, Mississauga News and Snap newspaper had all come out and wrote articles on the successful release party. David was also featured in Sway Magazine. The most notable thing about the release party was that it had never been done before in brampton at that location. It was a very positive and influential experience that the community was involved in. There was a barbecue and free give aways.

David sold over 100 copies of Rise Again. United Achievers was one of David’s biggest sponsors who also presented there many uplifting programs to the community such as non-violence, teen pregnancy programs and other educational opportunities. Since then David has been working the album, performing at shows and doing radio interviews. The album has independently sold over 4000 copies so far and continues to do well.

David has just completed his new single called “Submit To Me” it is set to be released near the end of 2012. “Submit To Me” was recorded, mixed and mastered at Metal Works Studios. The song is very soulful, deep hearted and up beat. He traveled to Jamaica to shoot an “unofficial video” for it. The Official Video was shot in Toronto. The video was released virally August of 2012 and has now surpassed 1 million views on youtube and has been getting many good reviews on his Facebook page. This single features pop artist Alexandra Soumalias who has also been making a great name for herself. She is now signed to Last Gang Entertainment and doing very well for herself. Mr. Record has started up his independent music production company called Rise Again Entertainment Inc. He is working with a team of in house producers and other well established key people within the industry.

In August of 2012 Mr. Record founded the David Record Scholarship Award for the Creative Arts. This scholarship is granted annually to assist a student enrolled in a post-secondary program that fosters the creative arts that enhances creativity and productivity of youth artists and entrepreneurs, to foster their abilities to make a difference in their lives and communities. The recipient of the award must demonstrate that through their creative endeavours they are making a difference and using their creativity to make a positive contribution to their community and be a good role model for their peers.

David Record - “My musical flow touches on my experiences with self-battles, strife and pain. I exude a conscious vibe that is influenced by my Jamaican roots. The messages in my songs are filled with love and encourage listeners to live righteously. I offer listeners unique compositions that explore topics on love, peace, heaven, hell, dreams and reality!”
