"Interview with At First Sight: Reasons To Believe"

David Ryan: Reasons to Believe

AT FIRST SIGHT·THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2016
AFS: Thanks for joining us again, how’s everything and how excited are you for your EP?
DR: What's up? Thanks for having me! I'm well, keeping busy with shows now that the record is finished.
AFS: Awesome, for fans that haven't seen it yet you have four songs on the EP, if you had to pick a favorite which would it be?
DR: “Getting A Move On” That song took a couple years to finish writing and explains exactly what i set out to do before i started it, it's about leaving the places holding you back and freeing yourself. Transforming yourself will liberate your soul and that's what the song defines. It’s funny because i wrote the song when I was still in New Hampshire and now I’m living it and wrote about my future before I started living it! As a result, has helped others pursue their intuitions.
AFS: Obviously, you just started your solo career but does that mindset put into play mentoring other artists and having your own label in the future?
DR: Absolutely! For a long while i have been wanting to pursue my own music and share my message with others in hopes it will inspire other to do the same. Mentoring helps us all grow and develop stronger intellect about what we set out to do as musicians as far as having my own label, I haven't thought about that. My next step is hitting the road to promote and play, in today's new music industry everything is released independently so there really is no point in having a "label" unless you just want a fancy name on your product.

AFS: Does that seem to be a growing trend that the record label isn't as desirable with all this new media, kind of like an athlete who represents themselves?
DR: correct. Because no one cares or even knows about the label anyways because we stream everything now and share it so easily that there really isn't a middle man anymore. The musicians make all the profit and call the shots. We are in the age of the artist.
AFS: Back to the music, what do you use for inspiration, is there a balance between real life events and topics that u think would be popular?
DR: My inspiration comes from the struggles of living, providing, the blue collar American who defines the essence of what being a family man or woman is about. The love that reconvenes a family at the end of a work day. I live that life and that’s where my material comes from. It is too real of a topic for some to handle and a lot of times is hard for me to handle but that's where my material comes from and where our perseverance and strength as individuals comes from.
“That is how you test your metal to face adversity and overcome it with help and love at the end of the day.”

Life is simple and we make it difficult when it doesn't have to be. My topic isn't popular especially for this generation of music listeners but i don't care about what the new hip thing is. I’m true to my core and as real as you're gonna get, coming from a working man myself heading home after a long tiring work day or tour.
AFS: With that kind of philosophy, if you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?
DR: Bruce Springsteen. He writes about the very thing I said and knowing someone like that understands the struggles is what needs to keep happening. We need to keep talking about these topics instead of hiding from them. That's how you become stronger.
AFS: Thanks for joining us, the last question comes from Leah, where are your favorite places to hang out in Nashville?
DR: My pleasure! fav places would be The The 5 Spot, The Country Nashville, Springwater Supper Club and Lounge, midtown, so many places in Nashville you can catch me.

"Keep Walking Music: David Ryan-Mississippi Rose"

Keep walking Music

"David Ryan is going places. From New England to Nashville, from Metal to Americana; from drummer to singer-songwriter—one thing is clear: this man is on a journey. His starting point on the map is the Boston suburbs, where he joined the school band at a young age. As a member of the drumline until graduation, David cultivated a solid respect and understanding of music.

Of course, that next stop on the map was a stint with some of the rock and metal bands in the Boston area. This stop in the journey led him to work with famed Rock icon Andy Pratt, who wrote and recorded some of the most beloved songs in the world. After drumming with Pratt, David’s journey crossed paths with Colene Walters, Porter Waggoner’s duet partner after Dolly Parton went solo. Walters, a Grand Ole Opry legend, needed a drummer, and David Ryan fit the bill.

This song is really amazing, David amazed us with his wonderful performance, from the first moments of the song you feel the voice of david in your soul, this will make you repeat the song again and again..." -

"Nashville Offbeat-David Ryan: Breaking Into the Songwriting Scene with “Mississippi Rose”"

Nashville Offbeat

"There are those who sit around and hope for good things to happen, and there are those who ambitiously work for their dreams. New Hampshire native David Ryan falls under the latter category. He began his music career as a drummer, and is now laying his heart out and rebranding himself as a singer/songwriter here in Nashville. After attending Boston University for audio production and touring with various bands, David decided that Nashville was the next step for his music career.

When he’s not on the road or recording, David is working on the next song and planning out all of the details to get it out to the world. Nashville Offbeat is happy to have met with this busy human to talk about his song “Mississippi Rose” off of his self titled debut album released last October.

“Tupelo, Mississippi was a break up point. We had a stop there and she and I had a blow-up argument… and that was the (end) of the relationship – And so Mississippi Rose is how it came to be. It was something beautiful, but it didn’t last.”

“Mississippi Rose” has received airplay here in Nashville on WXNA as well as on 1960 in Atlanta. It’s a simplistic love ballad with an indie vibe and a story that most can relate to. If you’re looking for an easy-going song to listen to on the road – or as you’re processing the end of a relationship – this is for you.

David Ryan has an upcoming new rocking single titled “Give Me Your Love” coming out this October, so be on the look out! He will be touring through Nashville, Louisville, Atlanta, and Huntsville to promote his new release. You pretty much have no excuse to miss seeing him during his travels, because he’ll be all over the place! To keep up to date, follow him on Facebook and Twitter..." -

"A&R Factory: DAVID RYAN RELEASES A HEARTFELT SONG ‘MY LOVE’"

A&R Factory

"David Ryan is a singer and songwriter with a really unique approach.

His music can be considered intimate and emotional, yet there is a lot of energy that goes behind his approach and vision. David’s recent single, My Love, is a heartfelt song with romantic lyrics and edgy vibes, which truly showcases the artist’s driven attitude. Although David makes music that sounds familiar in a sense, he does not comply with the typical cliches of the genre, choosing instead to develop a unique tone and a very special vision.

The result? total focus on the music itself! On “My Love”, the vibes are just spot on. This track is a little gem with all the right feels in the right places. Down to the meticulously arranged melodies, I am particularly impressed by the attentive approach to production. This song is romantic, yet no trite. Energetic, yet not basic…just the perfect balance..." -

Bio

David Ryan is going places. From New England to Nashville; from Metal to Americana; from drummer to singer-songwriter—one thing is clear: this man is on a journey. Walters, a Grand Ole Opry legend, needed and drummer, and David Ryan fit the bill. David set his sights on Nashville. It was time to start moving on. It was here in Nashville that David began writing with Big Tent Publishing Artists and realized his dream to become a singer-songwriter. While playing gigs for others, he also wrote and recorded his own catalog of songs, now known as David Ryan, The EP. In the tradition of great Americana music, Ryan plucks nostalgic heartstrings with every track, starting with My Love and completing the journey with Getting a Move On. Reminiscent of famed poets and artists Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the David Ryan EP focuses on positive changes in the world, a departure from Americana’s more forlorn Country cousin. He combined his love for Americana music with his roots in Rock and Metal, and the result is an Alternative EP that’s sure to please listeners of all genres.
Though this is David Ryan’s debut solo EP, he brings to the table and extensive and impressive musical resume. The David Ryan EP was recorded and produced by Tim Rogers, who also mixed and provided instrumentation on the record at Wild Wind Recording Studio. This isn’t the end of David’s journey. He’ll keep traveling, first in support of his EP all over the country, and then on to develop and record more music. This is only the beginning.
