"breathtaking range"

David Sereda’s range as a singer-songwriter is breathtaking. It’s not his voice so much, for all its honey colour and warmth, as it is the dimension of the emotional scale which drives it… The Blue Guide is a powerful witness to his talent and uniqueness. Strictly speaking, he is comparable to no one. Rather, those who follow will have to be compared with him.

"rich & soulful"

Sereda has a richness in his voice most singers could only imagine possessing…
captivating, soulful and spontaneous…combining the personal and political in perfect harmony. - Xtra West, Vancouver, BC

"rare, fierce passion"

Male torch singers are rare. Even rarer is Edmonton’s David Sereda, a gay singer-songwriter who fuses grief, loss, loneliness and fierce passion in love songs that tear the heart…

Bio

every sereda song is like a story.
sereda goes for it, aims for the heart like a modern troubadour.
he's got a powerful voice, and his joy of singing is contagious whether backed by his stellar band and rich harmonies or singing a cappella. he's both intimate and passionate at the same time. He has performed across Canada in major festivals (Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver Folk Festivals, Eden Mils Writers Festival) and cancert halls (Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Glenn Gould Studio and Harbourfront, Toronto, Place des Arts, Montreal).

"boyfriend", the upcoming CD features david on vocals and piano backed by an amazing group of musicians: Colleen Allen (sax & vocals), Rebecca Campbell (harmony vocals), David Gray (guitars), George Koller (bass) and Gary Craig (drums). Special guests Aaron Davis (piano), Richard Bell (organ and Dan Dugmore (pedal steel) grace the song I do Believe.

One of Canada's first out gay male singer songwriters, david grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and toured Western Canada, starting in clubs and folk festivals. A move to Ontario coincided with finding a fuller sound, and music that crosses styles and defies easy slots.

He's interested in the unusual twists that life sends us: you never know which way his songs will lead but his heart is always right there.

Along with his upcoming CD he's written the music for a full length musical based on legendary Canadian painter Tom Thomson called TOM and has toured those songs in concert as Songs in the Key of Tom.

david says: "A song should transport you, so I'm aiming to be in the transportation business."

David Sereda sings like an angel and writes like a sinner. (author Michael Ondaatje)
