"About David Wycoco, MAFA conference review"

David Wycoco's music is personal and feels like home. No matter what the song is about, I can always feel the emotions of the song, and it makes me feel like everything's going to be ok. David's music helps me to get to know him better, and it's an insight into his soul. - Ninna Damrongsan - Bayanihan Students Orginization of Marquette University & Co-ordinator for 2006 M

"Always a Home for Spark*Shop"

Savor The Flavor Coffee House is a neighborhood favorite in Lincoln Park area of Chicago Illinois. Many musicians have come through the doors not just for the coffee but to perform as well. But no other musician has impacted this Chicago coffee house like SPARK*SHOP also known as David Wycoco.

David's performances have won over many fans in the area, and David's musical contributions to the store has helped show this city that Savor the Flavor is not just Chicago's # 1 Coffee House (as voted by citysearch.com) but also a great performance spot for many great talents.

Spark*Shop shows transform this attractive and comfortable cafe, into another dimension of sound, light and entertainment. To produce a real one-man show.

When Spark*Shop performs, one wing of the cafe is taken over by an impressive set up of speakers, instruments, glow lights, and excited people.

David sings passionately as he plays his guitar, at times dramatically being silouhetted by the light of the video projection that beams behind him. The visuals are abstract at times but works with David's performance and creates an impactful aspect to the experience that draws the audience in. Such a visual environment only helps tell the stories that David sings.

David keeps Spark*Shop shows interesting not only with solid music but with his quick wit and nutty humor, the audience is kept laughing inbetween songs. A true showman.

There has been occasions where technical difficulties occured with some equipment while performing and instead of stopping the song, David turned the song into a request for his girlfriend to come into the performance area and fix the trouble as he kept singing and once successful she had left the stage and David continued to sing a new verse with lyrics that he improvised which thanked her coming up to help and he professed his love and attraction to her sexiness.

We've had the privledge of having David work with this cafe as host of the open mics creating a fun atmosphere where everyone feels like getting involved and staying entertained much like the Spark*Shop shows. David on many occasions sheds the glitz and technology of Spark*Shop and shares his songs acoustically.

These times are intimate moments of a stripped down performance containing David's voice and guitar. In these moments you see a different spirit shine through. David turns the house lights low and lights candles on every table as he sings his well crafted lyrics as time seems to stand still, and all our minds absorb the words that are sung.

Be it on his own, or with a whole multi instrumental multimedia performance, Spark*Shop really captivates an audience.

David's performances have been so welcomed at the cafe so much that we are proud that he considers this coffee house a musical home. Especially being so far away from his actual home in Canada, David is making a name for himself with great showmanship and spirit.

A great musical ambassador for our cafe and we are proud to consider him, a part of the Savor The Flavor family. - Official Word of Savor The Flavor Coffee House

Bio

For someone who was told he was cool at the age of 8 by David Hasselhoff, David Wycoco has written some pretty heartfelt and humbled songs. His music is known to be driven with poetic lyrics, catchy melodies, and a refreshing stage presence. Such a combination makes David Wycoco captivating to audiences everywhere.

Leading up to his current musical release, David started performing in cafes and bookstores throughout Southwestern Ontario, Canada, moving on to playing at clubs and other venues in a number of Midwestern US cities, and even a special opportunity to perform in the Philippines, and Malawi, Africa. David has also used his music to represent cultural pride for his Filipino-Canadian background in various college and university circuits, as well as championing causes in support of human rights initiatives, equality issues, and more recently, mental health awareness.

During the last half of 2013, David recorded at the legendary Metalworks Studios just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Teaming up with producer/engineer extraordinaire Kevin Dietz (Broken Sons, The Cranberries, Negramaro, Silverchair), the two worked on a collection of David's original songs infusing rock, pop, folk, and an alternative singer/songwriter flair that boast a dynamic range of emotion, taking the listener from gentle melancholic introspection (One Story Home), to head bopping grooves (The Resolution), and even to awe inspired epic grandeur (Intercontinental Love). Seven diverse tracks ultimately formed David Wycoco's new release called, "Take Courage", which premiered in February 2014 to enthusiastic listeners and fans.

"Doing anything with honesty, vulnerability, and meaning takes bravery. Even Love requires courage. Love is the most honest, vulnerable and meaningful thing we can share with others and even with ourselves. We all deserve love, so be brave with it, and take courage". - David Wycoco
