One can never tell where great music will spring forth from. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that sometimes the resource is a musical family. In this case, Davina-Carolin is the daughter of Richard Hecks and his wife Gundy.
Richard Hecks is the leader and lead guitar player of the famous Nouveau Flamenco Band Luna Blanca. This instrumental group was presented the “Best World Album 2012” award at ZMR in New Orleans for the CD El Dorado.
Gundy Hecks is a singer from Germany with her debut single “Freedom in Your Soul” which was featured on the Goa Chillout Zone Vol. 5 compilation CD.
Davina-Carolin, pianist and singer, appeared on her first release on grand piano with a new cover version of the song “Comptine d’Un Autre Été, L'après-Midi – Amélie from Montmartre [Large Version”. She played it in a much laid back style giving the music time to connect straight to the heart of the listeners. She showed piano playing which is smooth, lovely and heartfelt. The teen’s approach to music is much like her father’s as these same words have been used to describe Richard’s guitar playing with the band Luna Blanca.
On "Dusk Till Dawn" Davina-Carolin & Gundy are singing together beautiful songs with Luna Blanca - Richard Hecks and His Nouveau Flamenco Band - as companion volume. Davina-Carolin sings the deeper lead voice and Gundy the higher second voice above the lead producing a very pleasant sound – years ago Simon and Garfunkel used to sing this way.
The song “Dusk Till Dawn” is a love song telling about the beautiful hours between night and day.
“Let Me Tell You” reminds of some favorite instrumentals from the 1960s - rhythmic and peaceful with a gorgeous melody.
“Pirates and Mermaids” is a track with the female voices taking the role of sirens luring the sailors. Catchy rhythms, beautiful guitar playing, and the haunting vocals make this one a stand out.
“Freedom in Your Soul” shows Gundy’s beautiful solo voice.
For the “Comptine d’Un Autre Été” chill out mix, Davina-Carolin's piano playing gets accompanied by Luna Blanca adding to the song a warm bass and a little bit of drums and congas giving it a slightly new age feeling, a perfect sound for relaxing.
