"DAVY JONES' LOCKER - Healthy People Prepare to Die - CD - Fuelstop Records - 2006"

Davy Jones’ Locker is slick with big, thick melodic hooks, big, gratifying transitions that feel like a Mac truck maneuvered into nimble lane changes in heavy traffic. The staccato piano and guitar parts control the sound and help define the pop style. There have certainly been other bands this good with a similar sound, however, Davy Jones’ Locker has a subtle and refined direction.

The songs are placed correctly for recovery of auditory fatigue. There are just enough small changes to keep interest and they are just talented enough and diverse enough to give them good traction with this project.

The mix is monochromatic: a big electric wall abuzz with parts and vocal lines that are all in the background. Nothing comes forward and it somehow allows you to actually listen to it at low volume. This works as a little background music for a movie soundtrack or maybe as mood music for nights of low-volume disobedience. (7/10)

""Healthy people prepare to die""

Davy Jones' Locker is an idiom for the bottom of the sea - the resting place of drowned seamen but it's also a very cool band from Norway.
Their debut EP "Healthy people prepare to die" is a real entertaining affair of post-rock,it would be totally wrong to label their music for either emo or modern rock which is the easiest way to explain it someone who wonders.
However, there's more to this quartet's music than to simply say it's new rock - there are elements of hardcore but not enough to call DJL a posthardcore band.
The music is agressive and yet melodic, the songs also tend to get slight progressive and my first thoughts go to the now defunct Danish band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and the TNT side project Vagabond.
Some harmonies also reminds a bit of the new Swedish band WhiteSilver.
Real close to a 4 star rating!

Bio

Our story starts back in 2004, when Tor Andrè and David started the band after both their guitarists in their metalcore band Aion quit. Aion had almost landed a nice record deal with a Netherlands record label as they had to quit due to lack of guitar-players. This pretty much gave the guys an inspiriation larger than life to get together a new band and get somewhere with it. Less than a year after having played their first gig in the fall of 2004, the band was set to play Norway's biggest festival, the Quart festival, in the summer of 2005. In 2006 DAVY JONES' LOCKER won the "people's choice contest" to play at Norway's Popkomm; Bylarm. Guitar-player Rune Grønn of Turbonegro stated that their gig was "-the best he had seen at the entire festival". The band's debut Ep got great reviews, and sold out in 2 different editions (1500 copies) . Some of the reviewers stated that: "you will love this band for sure!", "-these guys will have world domination!" ,"Someone sign these boys!"Now, in 2008, after 100 played shows, a huge following on Myspace (103900
profile views, 133997 plays, 21126 friends-23/5-2008) the band is ready to release their debut full-length album ,called "Schizophrenia, The Dance Machine" .On this record everything is bigger, better, faster and smarter. The band's sound is unique because every member is a strong link, contributing to each song. Influences: Energy, melody, fun, humour, life & death, truth vs. lies. Good ol' Rock n' Roll!
