With her New York attitude, Trinidadian roots, edgy white gowns laden with over-the-top and colorful accessories, this rising Sister has endured many starts and stops, however, she never gave up. As a Neo Soul singer/songwriter, Dawnkera comes full of surprises. With the smoothness of Sade, the boldness of Nina Simone and the high energy of Hiatus Kaiyote, you can expect a person who is passionate about her craft. With her velvet voice, she delivers well penned and superb storytelling pieces, coupled with a touch of Island vibes, drizzled with a hint of comedy. Grinding since 2017, and with no stopping in sight, she has a passion for real music. She prays that her music will inspire, excite and heal. In a time where music seems to driven by the hip hop culture, she is blazing the trail in a fight to bring back what she calls "open-mouth singing".
"I hope to bring back all those heartfelt songs, where you sang along with the artist, you know, like in the shower, back seat of cars. I miss the days of Anita Baker, when we mimicked her with your arms outstretched to the sides and you would open your mouth really wide and just sing, I hope to accomplish that, with these up coming albums."
