"Dawna Hammers; "Love & Loss""

This singer/pianist from Shelburne, on her fifth album (recorded at Lane Gibsons Studio in Charlotte) really does explore the themes of love and loss, with the transition starting right around the time the song titles blend from "Still in my Dreams" to "How Could You?" Hammers elegant piano playing and emotional singing about human relations bring to mind the Carole King/Joni Mitchell era of the 70'sand not just because she faithfully covers Michell's tune "River." Loss reigns over love in most of the albums dozen songs, including the bluesy "One Tear" though Hammers remembers to have fun every now and then, as on the footloose "Bungalow Baby" (how can a song with whistling not be fun?) - Burlington Free Press
