THE STORY OF DAWN OF THE SWAN
It all started when Australian songtress Esther Bertram invited her good friend and fellow songstress Sharon Lewis (UK) to join her on a gypsy busking adventure across Europe, to play at festivals and busk along the way. Esther had just bought herself a VW transporter van she called Stanley and had lined the walls with red velvet and flowers, along with building a comfortable bed in the back, creating a portable boudoir.
Sharon seeing the romantic side of sleeping in the van and singing on the streets like the French chanteuse Edith Piaf, immediately agreed in joining the journey.
In August 2009 the gypsy dream began!
Watching the white cliffs of Dover fade into the distance, Sharon, Esther and Stan the Van set sail for France. Esther brought her acoustic guitar, some sparkly dresses and a giant orange suitcase of original love songs. Sharon brought her melodica, a collection of hats and another giant suitcase of original love songs. Stanley, like any good man, provided shelter, moral support and got them from A to B with no stress whatsoever....
Driving during the day and performing street concerts in the evening their travels took them from major cities in France, Germany and Switzerland to the lush green mountains in Austria.
Each day at sunset the girls would arrive in a new town and set up their stage which included a purple rug, candles and solar powered fairy lights. As soon as it got dark the concert would begin. Esther started with a handful of her songs followed with a set by Sharon. As the tour progressed they started singing together, their sound became a blend of intertwining vocal harmonies, accompanied by guitar and melodica...
Curious and enchanted by the girls gentle yet haunting songs, people gathered under the stars to listen to them sing. By the end of the tour Esther and Sharon had won over many new fans and decided together that the gypsy dream was something to live for.
Inspired by the freedom of the open road and their love of adventure Dawn of The Swan was born.
