"Daydream - Up"

Daydream delves into a blissful surrealism on the tender fragility of “Up”. A great intimacy comes to define the whole album. Vocals feel akin to mere whispers between old friends. Something absolutely lovely comes to define the lyrics which opt for a poetry. Full of tremendous spirit the word choice reflects a careful considerate approach. Never overdoing things their stripped-down take works wonders for the songs have a living, breathing spirit to them. Stylistically Daydream draws from elements of dream pop, ambient, folk, all firmly anchored within a slowcore temperament.
The patience and persistence of the pieces proves to be undeniable. Daydream takes their time because that is what dreams do: they refuse to be rushed. Quite gorgeous they manage to achieve a maximum effect with the most minimal of arrangements. Highly reminiscent of Low’s early work, by including only the purest of essentials and allowing every instrument plenty of room to roam, Daydream proves to be a potent force. Besides the indebtedness to Low, Daydream draws from some particularly unlikely sources, like Bedhead’s meticulously slow tempos and the recently resurgence of interest in the otherworldly Duster of the 90s and early 00s. Nods to more contemporary bands like Beach House’s sunset imbued works also emerge, courtesy of the delicate vocals.
Though a mere sample, the opener “Up” starts things with woozy layers. “Beautiful Mistake” begins the album in earnest, as the vocals rest front and center of the mix. Sprawling and ambitious, the small details come into focus in such an affectionate way. From the light touches of the piano to the consistent loose guitar work, it all feels perfectly balanced. Warmth radiates through the whole of “Mine to Keep” with an ambient hue reminiscent of the sound of heaters on during a quiet winter day. Going for something pastoral “Liar” has a gentle disposition. Melodically rich the small sounds of “Sick & Tired” ring so true.
Drums come into the fray on the lush “That Night”. Here rhythm is an afterthought for the impact of the beat has an emotional impact to it. The sonic representation of the twilight before sleep appears in “Every Time”. Rather gauzy in its temperament “Everything We Once Were” explores a geography as the song unfurls into the seemingly infinite space. A groove of sorts steadies the driving pulse of “You”. Sounding like a true classic, “2008” has a long-lost Galaxie 500 spirit behind it. With a little bit of a field recording of a New York City evening, the album comes to a close with the gentle “New York”.
On “Up” Daydream crafts a beautiful album one packed with such tremendous emotion whose stories linger in the mind long after they are over. - Entropy Magazine

"Daydream: The Sound Of Coming Home From A Late Night Of Heartbreak."

Daydream is a new band on the scene trying to make a name for themselves. Their story began with the ending of another. In late 2018, Big Parade parted ways as a duo. Daydream was formed from Ricardo Saucedo, one half of Big Parade, and Karla Jaramillo, a frequent collaborator with Big Parade. They spent the next year creating and recording 14 songs that debuted as their first album entitled, “Up”. This album runs a little over an our with an overall beautiful and melodic sound. One of my favorite tracks is “Beautiful Mistake”. It’s this atmospheric whirlwind of emotion and beauty. An acoustic recording plays alongside a synth and a Rhodes type sounding piano. The acoustic sounds like it’s bouncing off the walls in your room with this spacious and intoxicating mix. Along with the vocals, this song sounds like you’re laying in the middle of a house show and everything is silent. This entire album is this droned and drugged sound. It sounds like coming home after a long night of drinking and heartbreak. Daydream is someone to watch out for because their music can be minimalistic and powerful or intricate and deep. Without a doubt, they will have next level song writing and a lot lot of creative expression. - The Lemon Radio
