"RALPH MYERZ REVEALS THE STORY BEHIND HIS NEW ALBUM SUPERSONIC PULSE"

RALPH MYERZ REVEALS THE STORY BEHIND HIS NEW ALBUM SUPERSONIC PULSE
TELL US HOW THE FIRST SINGLE OFF THE ALBUM, “TAKE A LOOK AT THE WORLD,” FEATURING FELLOW BERGEN FRIENDS ANNIE AND ROYSKOPP CAME ABOUT.

Røyksopp, Annie and I are from the same music scene in Bergen, Norway. Røyksopp had already released a couple of brilliant albums under the aliases Alania & Those Norwegians before I got properly started. Around the time they became Røyksopp I had been making music for a couple of years and we were all staying in the same building making music in our respective studios. So you had Røyksopp, Datarock, Bjørn Torske, Annie, Kings Of Convenience and a few other cats as well as the Telle office at the same spot. People were staying up late and checking out each others stuff and we could all borrow equipment from each other or get help with tracks or just hang out and have a few beers. Very special atmosphere that I think contributed a lot to the electronic “wave” of music coming from Bergen in the early 2000s.

The first proper tour we all went on had the line up of Ralph Myerz & the Jack Herren Band, Røyksopp, Annie, Erot and Bjørn Torske. Traveling all over Norway about 100 people max came to see us at the different venues…:) I released my debut album, A Special Album, in 2003 together with the Jack Herren Band on the now sadly defunct Emperor Norton label. It was in many ways the best of the music that was made during that period of time, and it was a great start for me as a producer / artist.

Røyksopp had released Melody AM and we both went on long tours and kinda lost contact for a few years as we were so busy with touring & recording new music. We have all been friends for a long time – around 15 years + without ever really working together, as we were so busy with our own projects. As it´s ten years since my debut and since I’ve worked with so many good artists on Supersonic Pulse, I wanted to have something extra special which could connect the dots from the Bergen days and 2013. I had this track that I thought would be perfect for Annie, so I asked her and she said yes straight away! After recording the vocals in Berlin and after I did the first rough mix, I knew this track would be taken to the next level if Røyksopp did the final mix & touch.

HOW DID YOU END UP MAKING MUSIC WITH SO MANY AMERICAN RAPPERS? A NORWEGIAN ELECTRONIC PRODUCER IS FAR AWAY FROM CRENSHAW?

Hahaha!

It´s actually a very strange and coincidental start on this. I had been producing a lot of hip hop since I started making music. I started out as a more of a hip hop dj/beatmaker and did a lot of stuff for more unknown rappers, mostly in the US. One day, I was playing with my band, Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band, in Vancouver at an outdoor festival. This group of mean-looking dudes approached the stage…and while I’m playing I see them standing there and kinda look mean and a little scary! After the show I didn’t even use the stairs from the stage, but jumped off on the side to avoid what I thought was trouble! And then the scary guys came backstage and said they knew one of my tracks, “Savannah,” and that´s why they stopped to check it out.

They also told me they were working on music for the Blade TV show and were namedropping a lot of well-known rappers. I was a little too jet-lagged to understand all this…coming straight from Norway via LA to play a show in Canada – was a little overwhelming at the time, so when they invited me to this party I gently turned it down! But luckily I invited them to our next show at Victoria Island, one hour drive outside of Vancouver. That night I regretted my decision a lot, as I understood that these guys had worked with pretty much all of my favorite rappers…

Next day at our soundcheck, a jeep comes rolls up to the venue and the guys from yesterday actually came to our soundcheck!!!!! After that I spent a few days in their studio in Vancouver. Hector Delgado is now the one who mixed the rest of Supersonic Pulse and also introduced me to so many of my favorite rappers that I’ve been so lucky to work with. Forever grateful for him taking the time out to check a second show by the band. Hector Delgado has worked with Snoop, A$AP Rocky and many many more…and is a GREAT engineer and producer.

DA YOUNGFELLAZ – WHERE DID YOU FIND THESE GUYS? THEY ARE AMAZING!

Øystein Fykse, the designer behind the SSP cover art, lived in Brooklyn for many years. And one of his friends there introduced him to Da YoungFellaz. Øystein, one day, gave me a mix tape they had done and told me to check it out. That mix tape was just crazy good, just the kind of beats I’m into with very skilled rapping and also better lyrics & topics than most rappers have nowadays. So Øystein contacted them for me and sent some of my beats to them. They got straight back with “Weekend Star” which was the first song we - DiscoPinata

"LMAO! These Rappers Who Blew $130,000 On Weed & 1st-Class Plane Tickets Are Now Being Sued!"

This is precisely the reason why, some people don’t need to be given the ca$h in-hand! Talk about blowing money fast, this group of guys ran through $130,000 of a marketing loan on WEED and first class plane tickets to entertainment festivals – THAT THEY WEREN’T PERFORMING AT! Hit the jump for more on the buffoonery!

JaaiR (JR)
Don’t forget to have a glance at these dudes, in the gallery! Bronx natives?! The nerve!
Rap musicians on the rise, Da YoungFellaz has performed with artists such as Talib Kweli and Snoop Dogg Lion, but that still doesn’t give them a right to pull this madness. A lawsuit filed in Manhattan states that the group – consisting of Johnny Aguiar and Brett Officer – blew there first $25,000 in 3-months. The defendants used loan money…for illegal purchases of marijuana,” states the claim. The duo alleges that, Manhattan studio owner of StigmaSound, Frank Marquez supplied them there smokes, but…Mita Carriman, Marquez’s attorney says, that the allegations are “100 percent false.”
So, 6-months after the promotion of ONE song, “Incognito,” and 130K later, they have to go to court.
I say this is some dumb s**t! Song shows major potential though…I hope all turns out well! - Janeen - IFWT

"Lyrics to Kendrick Lamar diss song by Da YoungFellaz"

The controversial lyrics suggest that Kendrick Lamar is coming for other rappers fans, even those he considers friends and he proclaims himself the king of New York. Rappers responded on Twitter and Lupe Fiasco jokingly ghost wrote responses for rappers.

A group called “Da YoungFellaz from New York responded  to Kendrick Lamar with a track called “Turn Down That Sound.

When I initially heard the track I doubted whether it was a true diss track. When I think of a diss track I think of Eminem going after people in personal, distinct and specific attacks. I expected something more along the lines of  Joell Ortiz, of Slaugherhouse, and his Kendrick Lamar diss track. I said it was possible I missed something.

Da YoungFellaz reached out to me on twitter and said I had indeed missed the point.

Da YoungFellaz provided the following statement via their management:

“We’re dissing Kendrick in Hip-Hop form, he didn’t say anything personal about us, but he did mention he was the ‘King of New York’, so because of this we decide to let it be known, BAR for BAR, LINE for LINE, there is NO competition with what New York City has brewing. A lot of entendre’s in this one. Listen closely and you’ll get it” -Â Da YoungFellaz
The lyrics provided to me by their management:

Verse: Jay Storm
Song full of bass, car full of weight, now,
The treble tremble, I see it all on ya face, the,
EQ, equals, from either arm that I take,
To Vietnam it today, with each bomb that we lay, wait,
Open books, they reading novels today, and writing autobios,
Saying all that I know is caught I case,
I came home and now I’m writing rhymes,
How many rappers you know dealin makin millions in these trying time,
How many times they tried convincing that they line for line,
But aren’t parallel, I see you on that carousel,
Many go round that merry go round, we bury yo sound,
You aint ready for that steady go down, pause,
Now we heavy, Betty Crocker, Freddy Kruger, cookin fire,
Scaring children in their dreams, a rhyme full of schemes,
The Appetizer, if you ain’t turnin down that sound right,
And all they’re thinkin is what the Entre a sound like,
Verse: Sho-Biz
The strong move quiet, the weak start riots,Â
Real n—s eat good, bitches do diet,Â
Eye’s on that mula, green in my Iris,

Flyest of the fly s—, my team is like Pirates,
Listen to the streets, so much volume in that silence
Like a vaca’ n—s a-round trip, my n—s resort to violence
The golden era we trying to take it back there,
We spit crack here, the way that he rap rare,
Like rhyming with black hair,
The said get money and power, then the respect a-come,
S— is money on every block n—- better get you some,
Brooklyn till the day that I’m gone, I’m from where the vets is from,
They hate cause ain’t no food on they plate, and they ain’t getting none
I go hard, them dudes frauds, we don’t ever hate,
Fugees like Pras, they pull your card, get yo’ cheddar straight,
Name a squad f—in with the God, yes I’ll wait,
I rest my case.

"Da Youngfellaz Recruit Kepstar & DeVo D For “Presidential Rolex”"

The up-beat, smooth, soulful beat delivered from Da Youngfellaz entitled “Presidential Rolex,” produced by Grand Staff’s KQuick and Golden Child, touches on riding through the city, high beams on, and being equipped with a presidential Rolex on. Youngfellaz’ latest project Sophisticated Arrogance is slated to drop July 31st.

Around 1:51, Kepstar takes the spotlight and lyrically beats the instrumental (pun intended) with punch lines and metaphors you’ll catch only if you run it back more than once because his “weakest 16 will body ya.”

Then, around 3:09-:10, DeVo D delivers flow that makes your head nod synchronized with the fast-paced beat “milking the game for what it’s worth.” - Jon Weber - The Source

"Sophisticated But Arrogant (The Prelude) – Da YoungFellaz [Mixtape]"

It seems like almost every week I’m stumbling across a new crew of talented MC’s doin’ their thing. One astonishing thing about it is how many of them are coming from the NYC area! Today we have a fresh mixtape from Da Youngfellaz, a young pair of talented MC’s that just came up on some of our radars over here at The Dankles. Now this isn’t be any means the first tape we have seen from Jay Storm & Sho-Biz but it is indeed a precursor for this full length album Sophisticated Arrogance that drops later this summer. On Sophisticated But Arrogant we get a taste of what might be wrapped up in the full-length but until then these ten tracks will have to tide you over as we are doused with silky smooth verses gliding over some equally luscious beats. Up top we have a little video for ‘Welcome To NYC Part II (ft. Crome)’ which is also off the mixtape so be sure to enjoy that as you let Da Youngfellaz show you their New York love. With appearances from Crome, DeVo D., Kepstar, Letra & Kami, Rich iCoast and Sal Capone all wrapped up in this tape you really get a good grasp of Da Youngfellaz style as they take us on a journey from chilled out hip hop vibes to more out there beats you wouldn’t typically expect slid in there. You can stream this bad boy below so don’t hesitate to snag any of these tracks that tickle your fancy for your permanent collection! - Nate - The Dankles

"Da Youngfellaz - Fnck A Rap Critic"

Another Hump Day is upon us - if you’re encouraged by the fact that we are officially midway through another work week, then why not treat yourself to some good music that will tide you over until the weekend? May we suggest F*ck A Rap Critic by Da YoungFellaz, a bouncy boom-bap, dreamy string-sampling, Method Man-quoting gem produced by Statik Selektah? These days, opinions and criticisms of hip hop are no longer limited to the pages of music publications. Anyone with an Internet connection and some free time can weigh in, much to the chagrin of many artists. When do you draw the line between being a fan and being a critic? Can both co-exist in the same space? Whichever side you’re on, this is definitely a track worth paying attention to. Unfortunately, it won’t be on Da YoungFellaz’ upcoming LP, Sophisticated Ignorance, due on June 25, but be sure to check out their last DJBooth feature, October’s Incognito. in the meantime if you’re digging what you hear. - Stephanie Vaughn

"Da Youngfellaz - New Rich City"

Thanks to Memorial Day weekend, a good number of our readers are most likely starting to pack for a much deserved mini-vacation. If you are still in search of a relaxing destination, however, I would urge you to avoid New Rich City. According to Da Youngfellaz, the experience would certainly be no picnic. On their latest song release, the New York duo, accompanied by guest Sal Capone, take listeners on a tour of their hood with a street-oriented style that is highlighted by a similarly tenacious, grimy flows and street-appropriate lyrics. Hammering home the gritty vibe is a smash mouth production from frequent collaborator Grand Staff, who laces a guitar riff with some haunting choir vocals that are an interesting juxtaposition to the trio’s brash approach. New Rich City is the latest entry in the twosome’s #MusicMondays series, which serves as an appetizer to Da Youngfellaz’ forthcoming June album release, Sophisticated Arrogance. - Lucas G. - DJBooth

"Da YoungFellaz - Sophisticated But Arrogant (The Prelude)"

The official precursor to their upcoming studio album Sophisticated Arrogance (dropping this summer via iTunes), the mixtape features 10 tracks' worth of original material from the NYC crew. Included are Booth-approved singles "Kings & Queens" and "New Rich City," as well as video single "Welcome To NYC Part II." Crome, DeVo D., Kepstar, Letra & Kami, Rich iCoast and Sal Capone make guest appearances throughout the set, which features production by Bangout, Bravestarr, Cooarri, Fred Nice, Grand Staff, HitmakerDot, Taylor $upreme, Trixx and The Kush Administration.

"Da Youngfellaz Responds To Lawsuit Claiming That It Blew $130,000 Loan On Drugs, Trips"

Last week, up-and-coming rap group Da Youngfellaz made headlines due to a lawsuit being placed against them for allegedly using a loan of a $130,000 to purchase weed and first class plane trips rather than to advance the group’s musical career. The legal action was taken by Frank Marquez and Stigma Sound, a recording studio located in Manhattan, New York.

After reading about the group’s alleged financial mismanagement in publications such as the New York Post, Jay Storm reached out to HipHopDX to provide Da Youngfellaz’s side of the story.

“The New York Post paid for that article,” Jay Storm says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “They’re slandering us. We got the call from Julia [Marsh of the New York Post] and we told her our side of the story, and she wasn’t trying to hear it. It wasn’t juicy enough to make it to page nine.”

Marsh did not respond to HipHopDX’s request for a comment.

During his exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Jay Storm says why the group initially needed the money and what exactly that money went towards.

“We needed marketing and promotion dollars to kind of get our heads above water,” says the Bronx emcee, whose group is signed to New Rich Entertainment and has recorded with Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton and Nipsey Hussle, according to its website. “The deal initially started, they asked us how much we needed. We told them we needed $25,000. At the time it was to push a mixtape we were dropping called Sophisticated Ignorance and we released Sophisticated Ignorance and the $25,000 helped paid for a bunch of different things as far as marketing and promotion goes. DatPiff, and wrapping DatPiff and getting the promo right, getting everything situated, it helped.

“These guys didn’t just drop $130,000 and went about their business and let us do whatever we want,” he continues. “These men watched every penny, every dime, every dollar that went into us marketing and promoting our project. They wouldn’t let anything go down without them being present. Every contract, every receipt that was signed, monthly overhead, it was all watched by them [Frank Marquez and Stigma Sound].”

HipHopDX made multiple attempts to contact Frank Marquez and Stigma Sound recording studios. They did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Da Youngfellaz’s Jay Storm also said that publications that have been running the story have failed to explain the group’s contract. The situation got complicated because the total amount of money disbursed to them took place over a series of four different contracts.

“The entire thing was an investment,” he says. “She [Marquez’s lawyer] came to us with a new agreement trying to bring all three agreements together, all three investment agreements together. We signed three agreements, one for $25,000, one for $50,000, and one for $75,000.”

After signing the first three contracts that stated the money was an “investment,” Storm alleges that Frank Marquez had a change of heart. “We signed three contracts before the fourth one,” he says. “The fourth was a loan so they could guarantee their money back. It feels like they got scared, because they thought we were going to get our record deal and if we got our record deal we were just going to get up and leave and not pay them back.”

According to Jay Storm, what started as a friendly business agreement turned sour due to Marquez and his people wanting more from the New York duo than it was willing to give up.

“It’s coming from a bitter investor who is trying to slander our name because the investment went bad, because we didn’t want to give up our masters and our publishing,” he says. “Our attorneys went back and forth. We have e-mails of her [Marquez’s lawyer] threatening us, saying we’re going to take you to court for 100% of your publishing and masters, trying to get us to change our contract.”

Another issue that has led to this public dispute, according to Jay Storm, is the manner of when the money that was “loaned” to the rappers needs to be paid back. “The contract agreement in the loan said we didn’t have to pay him back until 2015,” he says. “That’s why this is crazy. He’s demanding his money back right now, but our contract says 2015. We don’t have to pay you right now.”

Jay Storm says he wanted clear his and his partner Sho-Biz’s name because of the accusations that the duo wasted the six-figure sum on marijuana and lavish trips.

“It’s ridiculous,” he says. “The majority of the money that they’re complaining about went into radio promotions. For them to say that it went into weed or fancy trips, the entire nine months we were with them, we only took two trips. We went to A3C, where we performed at, and we went SXSW and we spent nothing close to $14,000 there.”

The New York Post wrote in its story published last week that Da Youngfellaz spent $14,000 while attending the popular South By South West festival.

Jay Storm also alleges that the New York Post fail - AMIR ATTIA - HipHopDX

"Da Youngfellaz - Last Forever"

They say that nothing lasts forever, except death. No matter what material objects you acquire in this lifetime you can’t take them with you, but there is a way to achieve some semblance of immortality – create works of art that will live on well past your last breath.

Da Youngfellaz, who we last heard Incognito, are back in the Booth with a video for The Underclassmen EP song Last Forever, a smooth and soulful joint that owes much of its heart to a classically-trained instrumental from producer Ralph Myerz and some beautiful vocals from L. Michele.

On the microphone tip Youngfellaz emcees Jay Storm and Sho-Biz let us in on their plans to achieve something more long lasting then here today, gone tomorrow internet fame: “Stuntin hard all the time like we do this for TV / College dropout making good music, they thought I was Yeezy.” Luckily fans won’t have to wait forever for new music. The duo’s journey towards longevity continues next Tuesday, July 31, when their new EP, Sophisticated Ignorance, arrives on The DJBooth’s pages for free streaming and purchase.

Until then, enjoy. - Nathan S.

"Da YoungFellaz: Building an Empire of Self Made Soldiers"

Da YoungFellaz are a breath of fresh air in a genre that is on the verge of becoming stale. Jay Storm and Sho Biz are switching Hip-Hop’s conversation to music that fans can relate to. The Crown Heights and Soundview duo structure their music with a commitment and dedication that is both refreshing and necessary for the revival of Hip-Hop.

Da YoungFellaz Find Their Talent

Jay and Biz developed their talent and friendship while in high school. As other kids were bringing trays of food to lunch tables, Jay and Biz were busy bringing rhymes and punch lines to the cafeteria. After graduating High School, the two formed Da Youngfellaz and developed an unfaltering commitment to their music. “We didn’t think we were gonna get out of our living situation because of Hip-Hop,” Jay shares. “We didn’t think we would travel the world. We knew it was a possibility seeing other rappers do it. But we didn’t think it would happen to us.”

Music compilations such as Back 2 Da Basiks, The Reflection, and features on Ralph Myerz’s Supersonic Pulse, reflect the honesty Da YoungFellaz bring to a music genre that often replaces real lyricism with tall tales and false images. Songs like Fast Life, Slow Money and Weekend Star were made with their fans in mind. Jay and Biz aim to reach the average girl or guy, the Self Made Solider, who works hard at a Monday through Friday job only to spend their money all too easily on the weekend.

Reining in Hip-Hop’s Essence
Da YoungFellaz strive to replace the fake images of up-and-coming rappers with large bank rolls. “At one point, Hip-Hop became a genre where it was just unrealistic. Rappers are rapping about cars that flew and boats that drove in the streets,” said Jay. “Before Drake, there were a lot of things that the music industry tried and failed.” As Hip-Hop shifts to favor artists like Drake, Whiz Khalifa and Big Sean, Jay and Biz are paving the way for their New Rich Effect takeover.

The borough lines of New York City have been unable to keep Da YoungFellaz’s talent muzzled. In watching their talent take flight, Jay and Biz have taken to stages in Europe and Norway. In cities where English is considered a foreign language, Da YoungFellaz decorated the streets posed on posters. “I mean it was amazing. They love the culture out there. It’s not just about how big you are,” Biz shared. Experiencing the roar of the crowd behind stage is what stands out to Jay most. “When you’re like two seconds away from hitting the stage and you actually peek and see everyone, that’s when you’re like, ‘That’s what ten thousand people look like?’”

Self Made Soldiers Empire

The taste of international fame is a bittersweet motivating factor for Da YoungFellaz. Hoping to inspire their fans by setting an example, Jay and Biz make it a point to connect with their Self Made Soldiers. “It’s our way of showing the young kids growing up who listen to our music, entrepreneurship.” Jay and Biz explain, “Actually start your own company and do your own thing. You can just go out and get it. You can become a Self Made Solider. Whether it’s going to school or going to work, it’s all about the grind.” In a genre that changes its definition more than a chameleon changes colors, Jay and Biz’s honest lyrics will keep their music current, relevant, and bridge the gap between Hip-Hop and its fans. - Ashley Nunez

"Da YoungFellaz - Give It Up"

Although the Youngfellaz dropped this heat last Sunday to build up anticipation for their 11.21.10 Reflection release, it's been gaining momentum with continuous downloads and positive fan feedback.

Give It Up acts as the forerunner among tracks that compile The Reflection and is a representation of how the duo feels within their current standing. Steady making Hip-Hop for the past 5 years, Da Youngfellaz's music demonstrates passion, maturity as well as progression. The title is no coincidence as the mix-tape serves as a reflection of how the duo has matured since their last mix-tape release, Back II The Basics and the road the two have traveled to arrive at their current mark.

Along with the release of the current single, the two have been committed to establishing a web-series, New Day, Rich Life which illustrates essentially, how and why they do what they do. Pledging allegiance to their Self Made Soldiers, the two have vowed to UStream on the day of The Reflection's delivery, 11.21.10, but are also scheduled to perform at Webster Hall, November 18th in New York City, preceding the release.

"Da YoungFellaz - Incognito"

In preparation for next week’s release of their Sophisticated Ignorance EP, New York City duo Da YoungFellaz are offering up a sample of the project in the form of single Incognito. On the Grand Staff-produced song both rappers swap verses on the struggles of love while singer/songwriter K-Quick sums up the overall feel of the song as he croons, “Riding through the city with my hat real low. / I just wanna be alone, tonight. I’m feeling incognito.”

Quick’s airy hook provides Incognito with just the right amount of R&B, it adds a touch of soulfulness to the song while not taking away from the Hip-Hop feel of the record. Serving as a follow-up to this year’s The Underclassmen EP, Da YoungFellaz’ Sophisticated Ignorance EP will be released on July 31 via iTunes.

"DaYoungFellaz release debut hip-hop EP “Sophisticated Ignorance” on July 31st through iTunes and Amazon"

NEW YORK, NY (July 29th, 2012) - - Hip-hop duo Da Youngfellaz are ending the month with a bang, as they announce the release of their highly anticipated three-track EP, “Sophisticated Ignorance.” Available for download via iTunes and Amazon on July 31st, DaYoungfellaz prove with this EP, that though their name creates thoughts of immaturity, their talents and experiences are far past their appellation tag. The title “Sophisticated Ignorance,” is portrayed in each of the three singles with storylines that demonstrate growth, adulthood and beats that boasts melodic tones for the grown and sexy.

Having phased fans with their material since 2009, Da Youngfellaz are creating quite a name for themselves, thus further heightening their hunger for career excellence. “I feel this EP has music that can impact the entire world,” says Jay Storm. “We've focused on a certain class of Hip-Hop listeners on our previous effort. This one is different, it's well-rounded, and we try to cover all bases.” This go around, the team sat down with their in-house production team including producers Bravestarr and Trixx of the Kush Administration, Grand Staff Fresh 2 Def, KQuick, and HitMaker DoT to make production magic.

The first track, Billions, drives listeners into a slow-tempo beat through a piano trance, against the quick-spit of encouragement to keep grinding and pressing forward. Ending with words from the great Bob Marley, the track classically foreshadows the next, Incognito, which features KQuick on the hook. With a relatable storyline of young love, this single stresses the desired necessity of solitude, falling in-line with the overall theme of the title “Sophisticated Ignorance.” The last of this trio-tracked EP, Chop ‘Em, has a haunting hook and aligns the maturity of being an artist with the desire to be the best of the best.

The inspiration for this EP was credited to Self Made Soldiers, who has supported the duo along the way. “They inspire us to make top quality music each and every time we release new material,” says Sho-Biz. With the EP release underway, DaYoungFellaz are already organizing the production of video for the single, Incognito, and only have plans of further career amplification.

Bio

Originating from the Soundview section of the Bronx and Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Jay Storm and Sho-Biz are making marks and leaving lasting impressions. Partaking in their musical passion since high school, Da YoungFellaz has reached unbelievable heights that industry leaders admire. From recording with Hip Hop legends including Talib Kweli and Phil the Agony on their “The Underclassmen EP,” to collaborating with other music notables such as George Clinton, Ralph Myerz, Snoop Dogg and Nipsey Hussle, Da YoungFellaz are continuously free-styling, grinding, and hip hoping their way to the top. And by any means necessary.

“Not being afraid to be judged on what we say on songs is what sets us apart from other artists,” says Sho-Biz. “I feel if you give 100 percent truth, no one can ever pull your card or test your truths.”

These New Yorkers haven’t just sat around and waited for fame to land in their lap. On the other hand, they dug their way into the industry and learned essential business skills to keep their career above the water. With their former mixtapes “Back 2 Da Basiks” and “The Reflection,” accumulating both more than 100,000 downloads; and landing sponsorships by major brands including Heavy Water Vodka, Prohibited NYC, Filter017 and Moods of Norway, Da YoungFellaz understand music as a business, and not merely a craft.

Recognized independently under New Rich Entertainment, Da YoungFellaz have gained notable press including mentions in AllHipHop, DJBooth, 2DopeBoyz, YouHeardThatNew, and HipHopEarly to name a few. This year alone they’ve been full throttle with features on Worldwide Wednesday Vol.1 Mixtape hosted By G-Unit’s own DJ Rob-E-Rob and their own “Underclassmen EP” buzzing all over major sites such as Amazon, iTunes, and Rhapsody. Da YoungFellaz’s latest project, “Sophisticated Ignorance” Mixtape, is building quite a repertoire, as a follow-up from their most recent EP that has caught the attention of Hip-Hop heavyweights. Scheduled to be released September 25th of this year, this highly anticipated Mixtape is expecting to further launch the duo into commendable prestige.

These strides however are not new to Da YoungFellaz; as of February of 2011, the Hip Hop duo has even hit international appeal when they opened the Nordic World Ski Championship in Olso, Norway. Performing in front of a crowd of 50,000 and over 120 million viewers, the group remains dedicated to providing their growing national and international fanbase with music they can vibe too. “I think that plane ride from New York to Stavanger, Norway to open up for Snoop Dogg, is when it finally hit me that this is my career." says Jay Storm. “It’s been crazy!”

Showing no signs of slowing down, Sho-Biz and Jay Storm credits much of their inspiration to the adversity seen in their childhood. “Seeing my dad chase the music dream and not getting where he wanted to be, helped me push further to get where I want to be musically, says Sho-Biz. “The day I told my parents I’m giving up school to chase my music dreams, I knew there was no turning back.”
