"Featured Artist"

"Their sound is dark, not entirely black, but a medium shade of grey. If lead vocalist and one of TWO bassists, Alfred Von Blume's Ian Curtis-esque voice isn't enough to be considered New Wave, Perhaps the Synths of Emery Cowan would be the hands down factor."

"Concert Review: Control: A Tribute to Ian Curtis at Churchill's, May 18"

"Daysleeper was up next, and the moment they started playing, their Joy Division influences were made extremely apparent. The vocals sounded akin to what Ian Curtis' offspring might sing like if he'd had a boy in the '80s, but the keyboard and synths almost overpowered the baritone lead vocalist. The group has modernized the Joy Division sound, and it was an interesting glimpse into what Curtis might have sounded like in 2010. The amps and sound system were a bit off, but that seemed to be more the fault of the sound engineer and less the band's. Either way, the crowd was entranced as they swayed and swooned within Churchill's vibrating walls, and their last song was definitely their most powerful. " - Miami New Times

"Live this Weekend at the Monterey Club"

Black is not back, because it never left. Daysleeper ensures that South Floridians who like Ian Curtis and gazing at their shoes shall not be left wanting for the appropriate soundtrack. The band, which originally formed in Miami circa 1999, combines obvious post-punk and new wave influences with a feel for ambiance that enriches their overall sound by providing a rich textural foundation -- and just the right amount of space. These latter two elements set them apart from the typical post-punk outfit, and earned them a “Best Band 2009” nomination from the local music scene website Queen of the Scene (queenofthescene.com). - Broward/Palm Beach New Times

Bio

Daysleeper is a band that formed late 2008 in Miami, FL by Alfred von Blume (Bass, Lead Vocals) and Emery Cowan (Keyboards, Vocals), who have collaborated on various musical projects since 1999. The two were later joined by Jackie Ransom (Bass, Vocals) and Will Roman (Drums). The focus of this new project is musical simplicity, distinction, and substance.

Genres describing their music range from post-punk to ambient to indie rock. Daysleeper’s influence comes from a wide range of musicians, many of whom combine ambient and minimalist tones with post-punk sounds. Daysleeper distinguish themselves through their oblique lyrics and unconventional song structures. Daysleeper defines their style through the combination of melodic bass lines with analog effects, classical piano, synthesizers, and a blend of post-punk and metal drumming.

Following many great performances around South Florida, Daysleeper is looking to expand their reach to other states and national festivals. They have been featured in a variety of regional newspapers and online music blogs.
