"INDIE SCENE"

DAYSLEFT
With their heart–pounding riffs and stellar performances, it’s no
wonder that a band like DaysLeft has forged the mold between
hard rock and metal. Without the need for a lead screamer, the
band who formed in Newmarket in 2006 has offered something
extra to each gig that they’ve played at and picked up die hard
fans up along the way. From sold out shows, to performing with
long–time friends from the Salads, it’s hard to imagine that their
debut album is only now taking shape. From gigs at the Rok
Boutique to an interview on hard–rock station Y108, DaysLeft
(Dan Preston (lead vox/guitar), Jeremy Stimers (guitars/vox), Jeff
Saulnier (drums, vox), and Jeff Buck (bass)) has earned countless
hits on their MySpace and now are gearing up for a stint through
Ontario and into Quebec and Winnipeg promoting the new full–
length studio record. From management head David Flynn of
Krutch Management, “This is a band of brothers. It is a
brotherhood, it is a family and everyone is treated with so much
respect – it’s awesome.” And it’s that type of unity that has taken
the band to the mainstream – they’ve earned a coveted spot at
Toronto’s 2009 Cannabis Cup in Toronto. As their MySpace url
would suggest, DaysLeft rocks. Catch them this Saturday at 5
O’Clocks in Cambridge to a predicted sold–out show with The
Salads. $12 advance, $15 door. myspace.com/daysleftrocks.

THE SALADS with DaysLeft and Dead But Dreaming. Saturday March 21, 2009. Five O’Clock’s Bar & Grill. Cambridge Ontario.

Released March 23 2009.

Live music events are catching on at the plaza in Galt and featured as Saturday night special events at Five O’Clocks Bar and Grill in Cambridge Ontario. Music promoters are securing this venue for the bands that they represent because of the larger space it offers in comparison to smaller venues in the area.

Five O’Clocks B&G can accommodate 200 people on or off the dance floor. Saturday night was a prime example. Advance tickets for the three bands appearing were sold out during the week. Others arriving by taxi cabs disappointed they could not get tickets at the door.

I was glad to be tossed on the guest list which was ‘very short’, according to the security guy at the door. The bands calling themselves Dead but Dreaming, DaysLeft and The Salads, I admit I was a bit nervous. Tossing around, dreaming about days left? I was concerned with more than just hearing loss and pushing and shoving. The last big music event I attended was a very loud rock show. I had basically lost my hearing for three days after. It was so worth it. I will not claim to be a light weight when it comes to listening to music. It’s better live and loud all the time. Although a quality sound system and stage design does have its benefits.

Saturday night was a seamless brute blend of extreme aggression and melody mixed with the potential to change the view of mainstream popular music, with intelligent lyrics I must add. Kitchener-Waterloo based Dead but Dreaming lead vocalist literally gruff - screamed lyrics at you - Into My Head, sometimes with the help of a xylophone. Again the emphasis was on the tone of voice being more important than the lyrics, in heavy metal music.
DaysLeft lead vocalist Dan Preston contrasted with a more mellow dramatic approach to balance their message. Dan Preston, one of the three guitarists for this band, shared the role of both lead and rhythm guitar. He ensured a unity of these brothers would continue. He belted out an empathetic effect in Foreseen, a song about keeping it straight.

The Salads were a bit more reggae roots with Mista D on vocals, Chuck Dailey bass, backing vocals, Dave Ziemba on guitar and Ryan “Leg$” Leger on drums.

This night was not as loud as I had predicted. No one was dancing per say but a lot of head banging, devil horn gesturing, a bit of moshing and a couple of crowd surfers. There were a few really neat images circulating too.
The absolute worst thing that happened from these heavy metal troupes was the knocking out of two ceiling tiles accidentally, from the tossing Salads. I thought I was just a poseur. I was wrong.

Bio

Formed as a recording endeavor, the band was quick to realize that there was something more to this than just a temporary project. There is unmistakable energy in the room created by the sum of years of experience channeled through the common goal which they all share.

Dan Preston is the band’s founder and lead songwriter. He has toured all over Canada, performed on many records, tour managed, recording engineered and produced countless bands. Dan’s energetic stage presence and charisma make him a natural front man in DaysLeft.

Jeremy Stimers brings in a perfect blend of pure hard rock guitar fused with schooling. Graduating from the Humber music program in 2006, Jeremy is a full time musician who has now emerged as a creative force in DaysLeft.

The similar styling of Jeremy and Dan combined lays way to a guitar presence that is both articulate and intense. From pounding, unified rhythm work to harmonized melodic lead sections, this duo has the potential for greatness.

Jeff Buck and Jeff Saulnier form a rhythm tandem that drives with a strong, focused groove and structure. They have combined their years of live and studio experience to create a textured backdrop for the powerful guitar and vocal illustrations up front.

Driven by good attitudes and reinforced with solid musicianship, DaysLeft have regimented in a routine of constant writing, recording and live performances that is not matched by many. From super catchy hard rock songs, to a commanding stage presence, the members of DaysLeft leave no stone unturned in order to stimulate both the ears and eyes of even the most demanding rock fans.
