"DayTrip CD Release Party"

Local “party rock” band Day Trip has a CD release next Friday March 16th for their new CD, “Home is Where You Make It.” The band has been together for 3 years, but this is their first album.

”When we first started it was just about jamming,” said Chad Lachambre, who plays guitar and vocals, “and then it developed into a bit more.”

The band says they’ve been playing these songs for about a year and a half and finally decided they should make an album. This album has been the band’s biggest challenge to date, other than “not killing each other,” joked Jesse Scobie, bass player.

Travel, girls, and drinking are the main themes in the band’s songs. They collaborate in their song-writing process, but usually Chad writes most of the lyrics. “A lot of it comes from personal experience,” he said, “usually I’m just telling a story.”

The band’s name was inspired by a friend who was flying to Thailand, but got sent home when he was unexpectedly stopped by customs officers in Tokyo. “So it was a day trip to Tokyo!” explained Robbie Ryba, guitarist.

Day Trip says they would love the oppourtunity to go on a tour some time, but with full time jobs it can be a tough commitment. “Right now we’re just happy to be hanging out, jamming and playing shows,” said Lachambre.

The band’s CD release will be at the Distrikt on Friday, March 16th, and Great Rooms and Left English will be opening. They’ve also got a trumpet player from the Pile o’ Bones Brass Band coming to play with them to add a unique vibe to their show.

“It’s one of those shows where you can just come out, have a drink, bob your head a little bit. You’re guaranteed to have fun if you come check us out,” said Ryba.

“A great 4-piece rock and roll show,” added Scobie. “You can’t beat it.”

"A City Slicker Exclusive: The Distrikt's Final Weekend lineup"

Come celebrate one last time at the club that has been Regina’s best venue for live music for the past four different decades. Known by names such The State, Channel One, and The Schnitzel Haus, among others, The Distrikt has long been the place where people go to see the live acts in the Queen City.

Headlining this stellar lineup of legendary Regina groups and newer bands aiming to make their mark are Juno Award winners The Waltons.

Performing one-night only, Jason Plumb and Keith Nakonechy are reuniting specifically for the historic music venue’s swan song, The Waltons were last seen playing to a throng of over 10,000 people in Wascana Park. Considering that it took Saskatchewan’s 100th Anniversary to draw them out of retirement previously, one can surmise The Distrikt in it’s many incarnations has meant a great deal to many folks nationally, and most importantly locally.

Considered the most successful Queen City export musically, The Waltons achieved international recognition and national acclaim with their debut Lik My Trakter, releasing four more CDs including their 2001 live album, appropriate titled Liv.

Joining the royalty of Regina rock for the club’s farewell weekend is the aforementioned Jason Plumb, who has enjoyed a successful solo career since the dissolution of The Waltons. The Extroverts are a pop-punk group first formed in 1979 who are still name-dropped by those in the know as the best punk group Regina has produced not named I-Spy.

An interesting aside, The Extroverts were the first band to christen the venue’s stage and will be the last band to grace the club’s perch.

Other artists include budding Country music star Blake Berglund, local rockers Fly Points and Great Rooms, one last party by the one and only Derek Wu, and numerous other performances.

All considered, the pinnacle of the weekend’s festivities promises to be the folksy-pop of The Waltons Saturday evening. With hit songs like “Colder Than You,” “End of the World,” “The Naked Rain,” “In the Meantime,” and “Beats the Hell out of Me,” The Waltons will undoubtedly blow the lid off the old room one last time for old friends and new fans.

Bio

DayTrip is a four-piece rock n roll band formed in Regina, SK., with a focus on good tunes and great times. In our three years together, we have played gigs in living rooms, garages, fields, bars, and other music venues in and around the Regina area. An increasing repertoire of original tracks has allowed us to record our debut album “Home is Where you Make it” and our CD Release was an overwhelming success. With influences that range from Clutch, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2 and classic rock in general, each of our songs are easily distinguishable. We're four friends that love playing music and are grateful every time we hit the stage to showcase our hard work. We're currently working on writing new songs that will be on our follow up album, as well as, booking shows for the spring and summer months. Stay tuned!
