"Secret Garden Snippet"

Readers of Denis Poole’s Secret Garden will know it’s the place to go for a British perspective on all that’s good, and not so good, in the world of smooth jazz and classic soul. In order to bring you more of the news more of the time this latest Secret Garden Snippet delivers another current sound bite from the adult contemporary scene. Some artists have to pay their dues on the road and in the studio before finally getting the chance to cut their debut CD but Florida based saxophonist Dayve Stewart has taken the fast track and come up with a winner. Feel Me is an astonishingly well constructed release from someone still only 21 year of age. The soulful thirty eight second introduction and a kicking closing number both in vocal and instrumental form sandwich seven more classy tracks all but two of which have been composed by Stewart himself. Dayve is involved in every aspect of Feel Me. As well as playing virtuoso sax throughout he produces, mixes and variously performs on keyboards, percussion, bass and strings. The result is so polished that the entire piece of work stands out like a shiny new apple. The whole album is generously endowed with top notch playing, most notable in the groove driven mid tempo chunk of smooth sax that is ‘Love @ First Sight’ and the equally silky smooth ‘Lay Back And Chill’ where Stewart achieves a vibe that makes the sentiment of the title a given. ‘Do The Dayve Clap’ is an up tempo tune that is sure to play well in a live setting but perhaps he is found at his best with ‘Give Thanks’ where given the chance to turn it down and get romantic he does it so very well. That said another real stand out is ‘Oprah’, held down by a strong and solid beat, it has an infectious hook and is brim full of melody. A former student of the Howard W Blake High School for The Performing Arts in Tampa, Dayve is a current member of both the FSU Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Combo and is working toward a Commercial Music degree with a minor in Business at Florida State. With a style that has already been compared to both Grover Washington Jr and Kirk Whalum, and a record of the caliber of Feel Me under his belt, with or without his education he is on an express route to stardom. "Nu Flava Magazine"

Finger snapping, slight hand clapping funky jazz may not seem to be an ear turner to some, but when its done harmoniously with the softly played Saxophone then attentiveness will take place. Dayve Stewart beautifully displays his creative composing and production side throughout this project. If you have been lead by no other names in the jazz genre but those of major names then you would have to consider turning to the independent stations for a variety of wholemeal flavors. - www.nuflavamag.8m.com

Bio

“It’s all about The Vibe” Dayve Stewart, Saxophonist:

Picture yourself with a silky beverage on the coast. You are on a vacation and the day is flawless with not a cloud in the sky.

You are sitting in a comfortable lounge chair coated in dark red velvet. Suddenly you notice the gentle glance of that special someone. Your eyes meet briefly, a shy smile – that special sizzle in the air.

The music in the background matches the situation perfectly. The warm and smooth saxophone sound seems to know exactly how you feel in that very moment. Excitement, that tender warmness that fills your heart – you close your eyes, listen to the music and smile.

Do you feel The Vibe?

Whoever listens to the distinctive sound of this world-class saxophonist, will immediately be taken on a musical journey through several styles and times. Intuitively he connects with his audience and makes them feel “at home” in every single note. It doesn’t matter how old you are. If you are looking for music that takes your mind off your daily routines and allows you to feel special the way you are – then look no further.
At the age of 11 Dayve already knew that his purpose was to bring joy to live music lovers. Born to a Cuban mother and a Jamaican father, he learned early on what it means to “stand out from the crowd”. Extremely disciplined and always eager to add more “specialness” to his music, he has always known how to inject unique styllings to his performances.
It was not long after he had started learning the sax, when his talent was discovered and promoted by educational institutions as well as fellow artists.

Today Dayve Stewart credits many world-class musicians he has worked with along the way for laying the foundation of his skill. These include jazz pianists Marcus Roberts and Jason Marsalis. In addition, he was one of three saxophone players chosen in the US to study at the Vail Jazz Festival where he worked with Terell Stafford, The Clayton Brothers, Bill Cunliffe as well as Craig Handy. Just to name a few.
Dayve captivated fans across the world for more than a year with his show-stopping solo performance in the production, “I Can’t Stop Loving You” dedicated to the late great Mr. Ray Charles.

Over the course of his still early career, Dayve’s name has become increasingly familiar among Music’s elite performers. Dayve has been featured with world renown musicians such as Jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wynton Marsalis, Brian Culbertson, Kirk Whalum, Stokley Williams (Lead singer of Mint Condition) and actively tours with the Legendary Al Green.

Also a stellar leader, Dayve Stewart started his own band in the summer of 2005 named Dayve Stewart and “The Vibe”. The band currently keeps a busy schedule of exclusive performances Nationally and abroad. This is just the beginning of Dayve’s venture to conquer the hearts of live music lovers around the world.
