Bio

DC aka "Ricardo Lee"
RICARDO LEE ENTERTAINMENT

Every once in a while, an artist arrives whose star quality is obvious from the moment you hear their voice — think Michael Jackson, Brian McKnight, or Usher. To this list of luminaries add the name DC. An accomplished musician whose endless drive and heart for music will inevitably prove he has a presence and power that’s so electric, he sets the stage on fire. Give him a listen, and you’ll know why.

Equipped with a voice that has been compared to the vocal styling of Javier, Donny Hathaway, and Usher, and songwriting that combines beautiful melodies with soul-searching lyrics, DC has been searching for the truth in music. He finds his inspiration through all of his friends and family, his fans, and his heritage.

DC was born in Recife, Brazil as "Ricardo Corriea De Lima." His mother was only 14 years old when she gave birth to the him, and after struggling through the early years of DC's childhood, she made the difficult decision of putting her son up for adoption with hopes and prayers of a better life for him. Her prayers would soon be answered by a young couple from Washington, DC who adopted the eager five-year-old. His new adoptive parents gave him the name "David Ricardo Lee Chaney" and raised him with morals and values his mother would be more than proud of. The unknown whereabouts of his birthmother continue to remind him of the life and opportunity he has been given to do what he was born to do.

“My voice has been touched by an angel, and I know that she can hear me every time I sing. I pray every chance I get that we will one day be reunited.”

Soon after finding his voice as a teen, DC took every opportunity he could to display his talent. Throughout high school he sang the “National Anthem” at a variety of sporting events and won over several audiences at annual school sponsored talent competitions. After high school, he was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA on a four-year scholarship. During his time in Bosotn, he further developed his four-octave tenor vocal range and proved himself to be a gifted vocal arranger, songwriter, and dancer. Born with the gift of song and perfect pitch, he suddenly loss all use of his vocal cords over 1.5 years ago. As doctor's told him he would never sing again, he dropped out of the esteemed Berklee College of Music thinking his dreams were over. But DC never gave up - one day, just as quick as his voice was taken, it was given back to him with no rhyme or reason. At that moment, he decided he was going to go for his dream of being a famed performer, as he knew that ordeal was a sign to appreciate the gifts that is given because they can be easily taken away.

In and out of the studio for the better part of 2007, DC collaborated with such artists as Cuban Link, Jody Breeze, Calvin Miller, Survival Unit, Fuego, and recorded several of the tracks that can now be found on his debut "Ricardo Lee Entertainmet" independent release entitled, "Google Me".

With more than 300 shows under his belt, DC has definitely become a respected performing artist among his fans and peers. He has performed in a variety of settings from small, intimate clubs, to venues containing more than 5,000 attendants. In the last two years alone, he has opened for TI, Omarion, Bow-Wow, Llyod, Ne-Yo, John Legend, B5, DJ Webstar, DJ Unk, Jibbs, Huey, Sammie and Mario, Young B, Young Berg and Lil Mama, Cuban Link, Fuego, Sunn-Y, and was also featured as a special guest on the famous "Scream Tour", and the "TGT" tour with Tank, Ginuwine, Tyrese, and 112.

Like his music, DC’s personality has a great range of colors, textures and contradictions. He may be star-bound, but he remains a true friend to all those that bless him with kindness and still maintains his humble and approachable qualities. His many dedicated fans will tell you that he’s like no other – he’s one of a kind. He’s real. Give DC a listen, and discover why audiences everywhere are starting to embrace him. There’s no escaping it. You’ll feel it, too.
