Bio

If inspiration ends when an individual loses passion for what they are doing, then Yas Taalat and Bobby McIntosh will be making music until the day they die. The fiery forces behind Dead Celebrity Status have been making music since they were teenagers. After a successful run with their first group Project Wyze, Yas & Bobby decided to step from under the wings of Sony Music and embark on a new and inspiring musical journey. Teaming up with world renowned DJ and World DMC Champion, DJ Dopey, the team quickly began planting the creative seeds of evolution and Dead Celebrity Status was born.
What critics and fans alike find so special about their sound is their refusal to become stagnant and their drive to continually grow as artists and challenge themselves. Returning from a 6 year hiatus which has been plagued with industry red tape and countless personal barriers, Dead Celebrity Status is proving that music is like oxygen, “something they can’t live without”. From major label record deals to independent ventures, Dead Celebrity Status is viewed as a group that refuses to be boxed in to the formulaic tendencies of popular music. While the sound of the group is deeply rooted in hiphop culture, Dead Celebrity Status takes it a step further with genre bending musicality and witty lyricism which provides a sonic backdrop unlike any other in today’s musical landscape. This is the new definition of hiphop. A definition that is not afraid to take chances and challenge the status quo. It’s a new progressive sound which is creating an army of avid followers worldwide and continues to gain momentum. Dead Celebrity Status is more than music, it’s a movement!
Dead Celebrity Status burst onto the scene in 2004 with the critically acclaimed release of their first offering entitled “Blood Music.” The album boasted an incredible array of featured guests that included high profile artists such as Joss Stone, Dave Navarro, Twiggy Ramirez( Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle) Bif Naked and DJ Lethal(House of Pain, Limp Bizkit.) Furthermore, the album was produced in Los Angeles by industry heavyweight Danny Saber, who has worked with everybody from Black Sabbath, U2, The Rolling Stones and Busta Ryhmes etc.
In support of the “Blood Music” album, Dead Celebrity Status’ explosive live performances have earned them the opportunity to tour the world including stints all over Europe with hiphop legends Jurassic 5, often playing 3 shows a day! This grueling and tireless work ethic continued as they immediately went back out on the road across America with the world’s largest independent act, Tech N9ne. Touring is a definite staple in Dead Celebs world as they have toured with some of the most celebrated acts on the planet including Ozzy Osbourne, Tool, Blink 182, Linkin Park, Public Enemy, De La Soul, AFI, NOFX and many more. DCS have also been a huge part of some of the largest festivals in the world such as The Vans Warped Tour, Ozzfest and Edgefest. Dead Celebrity Status continues to share stages with artists of all genres from hiphop to punk, from heavy metal to pop, clearly illustrating the relentless passion and ability to play with anyone, anywhere, anytime.
In a visual sense, DCS are known to push the boundaries with music videos that are creative and original. The groups first video entitled “We Fall, We Fall” was written and co-directed by Yas Taalat and Bobby McIntosh . The video was heavily rotated on Muchmusic and helped garner an award for “Best Independent Video” at the West Coast Music Awards. The follow up video entitled “Somebody Turns the Lights Off” also received notoriety for its dark imaging and creative concept. Yas Taalat and Bobby McIntosh are no strangers to producing high quality and successful videos. As their former band, (Project Wyze) the duo released 2 major videos (Nothings What It Seems, Room To Breathe) both receiving heavy rotation and charting on the MuchMusic CountDown.
Dead Celebrity Status has a strong reputation for receiving song placements in feature film, videogames (EA Sports, Playstation) and network television. Their music has been prominently featured in many feature films such as; XXX: State of the Union (2005) starring Samuel Jackson, Willem Dafoe, Ice Cube, Blast (2004) starring Eddie Griffin, Vinnie Jones, and Canadian cult classic, Men With Brooms starring Paul Gross, Leslie Nielsen, etc. Recently their music was placed in a number of episodes of the CBS series The Defenders starring James Belushi, Jerry O’Connell. In addition Dead Celebrity status was featured as part of the NCAA March Madness campaign on TheScore network in 2009.
Judging from past accomplishments and success, Dead Celebrity Status looks primed to elevate to new heights in 2012. After much major label consideration and negotiations, Dead Celeb declared 6.8.2. Records as their new recording family which is also the home of legendary artists KRS-ONE and Grand Puba. The long awaited album entitled “
