Bio

Hip Hop music from Down South has been overwhelmingly popular in the commercial music industry over the last couple of years, yet many criticize it for a lack of substance and originality. Deacon Duval, the southern MC from Duval County in Florida is proud to point out that he is an exception. He remembers as a young child riding around in the car with his cousins who introduced him to Hip-Hop. He says they would play music from rappers from coast to coast. In those days he saw The Notorious B.I.G live at a show and waited in line for hours for classic albums like Nas's debut "Illmatic". It is this mix of music which he believes gives him a unique ear for sound and also an appreciation for originality and creativity.
In 2005 while living in Mississippi, record setting flood waters caused by Hurricane Katrina devastated the region. The recording studio which he operated with his mentor, and all the expensive music making equipment which they had invested so much money and effort in, were destroyed in the storm. As soon as he got his FEMA check he took his remaining songs, beats and whatever else he had left, and set out to Atlanta, the capitol of Down South Hip-Hop.
Shortly after arriving in Atlanta he landed an opening performance spot on a tour featuring So So Def’s “Franchise Boyz”. He also recalls seeing many fellow artists such as David Banner and Young Joc on the scene before they had big record deals. He has also assisted in overseeing marketing and promotions for some of the biggest artists in the Hip-Hop Industry. Many people in the Atlanta music scene respect him because they've seen for themselves how he has humbly worked his way up.
With his motivational tone Deacon Duval can get the adrenaline pumpin’ over hard hitting southern beats. Yet what stands out is his ambitious wordplay and lyrical versatility in which one can sense a genuine passion for creativity. Or as he likes to say: “The Deacon gonna feature what the preacher won’t teach ya!”
