"Indie Spotlight"

As Dead Posey, vocalist Danielle Souza and guitarist Kyle Foster might dress in all black and fill their debut video with skulls, spiders and black cats, but this duo is no goth throwback. Beyond their style (their name is a twist on both withered flowers and narcissism), Dead Posey plays intense rock that is not for the timid. The duo is currently in the studio with ALLIES (a.k.a. Tony F of Eve 6), and their debut single, “Holy Grail,” is already making waves as a bluesy, stomping blast of swaggering vocals, power chords and one seriously infectious, howling hook that will spare no one. You’ve been warned.

"INTRODUCING THE BLUESY AND ANTHEMIC SOUND OF LOS ANGELES’ DEAD POSEY"

Comprised of Danielle Souza (vocals) and Kyle Foster (guitar), Los Angeles, CA-based indie rock duo Dead Posey can trace their origins to when the duo met at an album release party at Serenity West Recording in Hollywood back in 2013. Foster caught Souza’s eye when he was lighting a candle inside a little glass cottage and it led to the duo striking up a joking conversation about setting Tinkerbell’s house on fire. After discovering that they had mutual musical influences, the duo started a band together, which eventually lead to their current project Dead Posey.

Their debut single as Dead Posey “Holy Grail” is a stomping and swaggering bit of anthemic, power chord-based rock that sonically owes a debt to The Black Keys, Dirty Ghosts and the glam rock sounds of T. Rex and others as the song finds the duo pairing Souza’s soulful and gritty vocals with stomping and propulsive drumming and scuzzy yet towering power chords. And although it is a rather familiar yet winning formula, the duo manage to do so with a cool self-assuredness and a sultry sensuality.

"SONG PREMIERE: DEAD POSEY BRING CRYPTIC ELECTRICITY ON “DON’T STOP THE DEVIL” OFF ‘FREAK SHOW’ EP"

Befitting their handle, Dead Posey is fascinated by what lies beyond, their music exploring the nature of mortality through both waking life and dreams. But while the Los Angeles duo’s lyrics lean toward the metaphysical, its debut EP, Freak Show (out 6/2), is a raucous, fuzz-loaded collection ofback-to-basics rock ‘n’ roll. Singer Danielle Souza’s inspired vocals blend seamlessly with guitarist Kyle Foster’s muddy, blown-out riffs in this vibrant, boot-stomping five-song collection.

The band spent most of 2016 working on Freak Show and credits producer/co-writer ALLIES (Tony Fagenson of Eve 6) with helping guide their vision and develop their sound. The EP was created almost entirely in the studio, starting from Souza and Foster’s bare-bones vocals-and-guitar demos. “We’d take our three-month old fetus of a song into the studio with Tony and then nurture and grow it into a snarling monster together,” Souza says. From the anthemic “Don’t Stop the Devil” to the soulful swamp rock of “Boogeyman,” Dead Posey will leave you eager to let your freak flag fly.
“Anything weird and abnormal, that’s what lights a fire in us,” Souza says. “Lyrically, I find myself thinking about the morbid truth that we will all die one day and descend into the unknown—so you might as well grab life by the balls.” While the macabre is a persistent thread throughout the band’s debut, the idea of human connection also weaves its way into each song, unfolding like a story told over a late night of hard drinking amongst close friends.

“I love when certain parts of your life end up having a soundtrack to them because of what was playing at the moment,” Foster says. “Creating art and sharing it with the world is an intimate thing—it helps people relate and make memories.”

Glide is pumped to premiere “Don’t Stop the Devil” a thrusting and quivering number full of disarming melodies. A name like Dead Posey may conjure something langour, but the duos cryptic electricity is reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age and the Kills, making for a rock 101 indulgence. - Glide Magazine

"PREMIERE: Stream Dead Posey's 'Freak Show EP'"

It's hard enough to get two people to agree anything these days, nevertheless to play killer desert rock. Dead Posey does exactly that. With a new EP on the way, the Los Angeles-based duo shows that strength doesn't necessarily lie in numbers. Freak Show is dark and features a blend of the aforementioned desert rock, along with elements of soulful garage rock and dirt under the fingers grit that describe the rough and tumble side of the city beyond the bright lights.

"I’ve always been drawn to dark, soulful music—anything with stomps, claps, tambourines and fuzzed out bass & guitar tones gets us buzzing," singer Danielle Souza says. "I think living in LA, in that atmosphere, really influenced a lot of Freak Show. This city has an odd combination of uplifting mysticism mixed with down-in-the-gutter smut and sleaze and I think that sums up the EP pretty well. The city is sort of paradoxical, so we tried to channel that into our music.

"Freak Show is not so much a concept but a vibe: it’s a celebration of the darker side of life and the temptations that it brings; a sample platter of the good, bad & the ugly, wrapped up with a ratty little bow."

"Freak Show came to us in the studio while listening to a lot of old blues and hard rock non-stop for inspiration," guitarist Kyle Foster adds. "We wanted to create an in your face modern blues rock sound that was familiar but refreshing at the same time."

Listen above.

"I love when certain parts of your life end up having a soundtrack to them because of what was playing at the moment," Foster says. "Creating art and sharing it with the world is an intimate thing—it helps people relate and make memories."

The two halves of Dead Posey first met at a recording studio in Hollywood in 2013 during an album release party. "It wasn’t really my scene," Souza says, "so I wandered off alone and found a kindred, outsider spirit in Kyle." She noticed Foster while he was lighting a candle inside a miniature glass cottage and the two launched into a conversation about setting Tinker Bell's house on fire. After discovering they shared similar musical influences, as Souza puts it, they "stumbled around in the weeds together" with various projects and bands, eventually leading to the birth of Dead Posey.

The new EP’s lead single "Don’t Stop the Devil" is a dark, '90s-inspired grunge anthem about how temptation can sink its teeth into the best of us. The single found its way into the game 'League of Legends" (Hype Video) and is also accompanied by a music video directed by Chris Berkenkamp (Dionysus Co Entertainment) that is at once dizzying, mystifying and deliciously creepy. The band will be bringing Freak Show to life at shows throughout 2017, chasing the darkness as deep as it will take them.
