Splits and compilations are always my favorite kinds of albums. I think it's the mixing of sounds that even two bands labled 'punk' can have. And the coolest new split to slide into my cd player is Seven and Seven, a mixing of the Put-Ons and Deadbeat Sinatra.
The Put-Ons lead the album with seven foot-tapping ditties reminiscent of the poppy punk of the 70's, but with all the originality and spunk of a new generation. With almost three years as a band under their belt, the Put-Ons are not the typical hardcore punk band that Orange County is famous for. They have a cleaner, more upbeat feel.
In the last seven tracks on this split, the happy-poppy feeling fades into a more aggressive, Agent Orange meets X kind of style as Deadbeat Sinatra takes control. In its seven songs, the Los Angeles based band changes style, but never intensity. You experience straightforward and heavy punk rock of "Baby Doll" followed shortly after by the go-go backbeat of "Do the Monster."
Both bands pay tribute to influences, the Put-Ons covering Billy Idol's, "From the Heart" and Deadbeat Sinatra rockin' out to "Chinese Rock" by the Ramones. The Put-Ons and Deadbeat Sinatra are a refreshing change from the pointless, style-less bubble punk coming from the commercial corner. One shot on some major radio station, and these bands would blow all the rest right off the airwaves

Too many splits, especially full-lengths, fail to cater to both ends of a specific genre for the two bands being featured to keep it fully interesting. However, with The Put-Ons and Deadbeat Sinatra, Basement Records has paired two bands that both plant their roots firmly in classic punk.
The Put-Ons play a style reminiscent of old TSOL with a raw vocal style, but more upbeat and with a more consistent tempo. "Jack Kevorkian Gift Certificate" isn't just one of the best song titles ever, but also shows the band's laid-back cynicism at its most apathetic nature. Their cover of Gen X's "From the Heart" provides a nice midpoint.
Although Deadbeat Sinatra carries a melodic snottiness in the vein of the Buzzcocks, The Ramones are the most obvious influence on Deadbeat Sinatra, in case both the song title "Ramones Institutionalized Party" and "Chinese Rock" cover wasn't direct enough. The guitars are ripped right from them, but are tucked safely under the roughly-woven vocal patterns. The chorus of "Beat Street" is like nostalgia of Green Day's Lookout days.
Seven and Seven is straight to the point with not a whole lot of dull moments, and two solid covers representing just what the bands are taking heed in. Plus, it's dirt cheap.

Deadbeat Sinatra has been a staple in the Southern California music scene for over 5 years now. Fronted by singer/guitarist Adrian Misquez, the band has taken the influences of 70’s Glam, 80’s New Wave, and Punk, and polished it up with a little Stones and Stooges to give you one extraordinary lesson in Rock & Roll. Evolving from the streets of East LA, long time friends Adrian and Larry Ayon (drums) wanted to bring the audience something different. Something with Rat Pack swank and style, something with raw, edgy punk rock guitars, and something with a hard, go-go backbeat to boot. The resulting energy is unforgettable, catchy, toe-tapping, and diverse.
The band has one major release to its credit – “Seven & Seven”, a split CD with veteran Huntington Beach rockers, The Put-Ons, released in 2003 on local Basement records. Deadbeat Sinatra has also been featured on several music compilations with the likes of Down by Law, Guttermouth, Seven Seconds, and Bullet Treatment. In addition, they are one of the original bands to perform in the now legendary “Kiss or Kill” club in Los Angeles.
Earlier this year, the band picked up 2 new members: James Lerie on Bass guitar and Steve Wolfe on rhythm guitar and have evolved into the more melodic, musically diverse Rock and Roll band that has the strength and motivation to move to the next level. The band is currently working on demos for the slated November release of “Shakin’ Bones” featuring such instant hits as “Another kind of Coldshot”, “Do you wanna get some”, “Dick Jagger”, and “Bleeding Heart”.
