The three members of deadbirds bring their own unique influences to the process of song creation, each set apart by their own eclectic backgrounds yet drawn together in the process of making music.

Songwriter and vocalist Dustin grew up on Vancouver Island, the place he still calls home and longs to return to. He names Okkervil River, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Damien Jurado, and Hayden as his musical influences. This is unsurprising given his broken past, which haunts him unrelentingly. He purges his nightmares and loneliness in song.

Guitarist Stan grew up in the beautiful Hawaiian islands but wasn’t spared a past that has made him bitter and angry. He plays guitar like he was in a heavy metal band, preferring Iron Maiden, Metallica, Muse, Cynic, and Megadeath. He has a quick tongue and a sharp wit, and little patience for religion.

Bass guitarist Jordan draws heavily from his Christian roots, finding inspiration in current Christian and rock music. He is the kind of guy that clichéd songs are written about – married at 20, deeply religious, and yet still does backstrokes in his dark swimming pools.

Deadbirds is a group of stark contrast, bound together over a love of music. The complexities of sound wrought with the merging of opposites are paired with carefully crafted and introspective songs. This results in emotionally charged performances that break your heart, if it isn’t crushed already.
