"Dead Feather Moon at Fiesta Del Sol"

What I’d like to know is why aren’t these guys playing a side stage at Coachella? Dead Feather Moon is that good! And, though hampered by multiple sound issues, they were still able to convey their message of moody, intricately crafted rock songs. Not to take anything away from what they delivered Saturday, watching them that day at the Fiesta Del Sol, I couldn’t help but think about how good this band could be in a few years. They are a well put together unit, a fine blend of two or sometimes three guitars with enough keyboard to make a difference and a solid rhythm section to carry the upbeat tempo along without faltering. All of this is wrapped tightly around engaging originals, which is exactly what will propel them into enough ears to make a difference for this band. So, it’s easy to think that in the future, when they’re rocking to thousands, I could be looking back fondly on this day saying, “I remember when I saw them for free, five feet from the stage.”
As the day went on and their battle with barely audibly mics, weak monitors, crackling amps, and bursts of feedback continued, Dead Feather Moon seemed to only get stronger. Their sound was expanding, conveying moods of rock, blues, and country. Strong vocals delivered by front man Justin Berge cradled the thick wall of sound that the band was manufacturing. His voice stood out just enough over the pulsing band that continued to display the depth of their overall talent as they wove through challenging stop-start rhythms and soulful interjections of vocal harmony. Dead Feather Moon has an air about them; it’s contagious. It felt like seeing a band on the verge of something great. See you guys at Coachella soon.

"Local Select 55"

Every day, we ask Tim Pyles what he's done for local music today. He's always discovering new bands, helping bands improve and even recording bands at his Pyles' Sessions. The guy has ten iPods full of local music; he is local music. So we challenged Pyles to give his Local Select 55. We wanted him to narrow down his ten iPods to the 55 songs by local artists that right now, he simply can't get enough of. These are the songs and artists that Pyles feels we'll be hearing more from in the coming weeks, months and years. Over the course of five weeks, Pyles will share this music with the rest of us. Check out below to learn a little more about these artists and to stream Pyles' favorite song from them. The Local Select 55 is supported by new Bud Select 55, the lightest beer in the world.

Dead Feather Moon is a San Diego-based outfit whose distinguished sound combines Rock with Alt-Country and Psychedelic Blues. Their heartfelt performances and rapidly-growing fan base have established them as one of San Diego’s most sought-after musical acts.

The band entered White Horse Studios during February of 2011, where they recorded their debut full-length album over the course of eight days. These ten tracks constitute their record, "Dark Sun." Crafted with a sense of purpose and urgency, the album quickly generated enough buzz to garner the attention of San Diego’s 91X and FM94/9 radio stations - where the band receives consistent airplay.

When the band is not touring, you can find them rehearsing four nights a week. They continue to write new material and fine-tune their live performances. Their steady stream of concerts in the greater San Diego area include headlining shows at renowned venues.
