Distortion interviews Robbie from Dead Kitten Parade:

How did you guys start out?

We started out as a band in high school with Johnny and I ( Robbie ) playing the school talent quest in 1997...we played a cover of Fire Water Burn by the Bloodhound Gang much to the dismay of the deputy principal who after realizing what was contained in the lyrics switched off my microphone...to no avail, the entire school erupted singing along accompanied by the guitar. We were disqualified and punished.

What band around today would you most want to play a show with? Why?

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the amazing powers of the universe have made it so that all three of us rate the Chili Peppers as our number one super favourite band of all times. They're just such a talented bunch of musicians with a career that spans over 20 years they're pioneers of the punk-funk sound rap-metal, although these days they're a lot more ballad like, we still love them.

What do you think of punk today with such bands as Good Charlotte, Simple Plan classifying themselves as Punk?

There's a lot more pop in them than there is punk although their image seems a lot rougher than they actually sound. Many of the punk bands on major labels probably started off sounding a lot more indie and a lot more punk...it’s just the inevitable goal of the major labels to turn a punk band into something much more polished and inoffensive. "Once you own a home in the Hollywood hills and a European sports car, the only "punk" thing about you are your clothes." Its not to be forgotten that behind the big punk bands there are producers, sound engineers, designers and publicists working to sell a product to the masses.
"

Living or dead which three people would you like to record a song with?

Dead is more exciting. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and John Bonham ...hey their names all start with a J!

What type of music do you hate the most?

Electronic dance music.

Anything else you want to add?

I'd like to add seven and nine to reach the glorious sum of sixteen.

Bio

When most people hear of Maroubra they immediately think of the sneak revenge attacks which promptly followed the Cronulla riots...but it is also the birthplace and home of Dead Kitten Parade, a three piece rock band who are a musical reflection of the cruisy lifestyle on the lower east coast of Sydney.

A band born in high school out of friends who loved the same bands: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana & Weezer to name a few, the boys spent years having fun with other peoples music whilst unintentionally creating their own sound in the process.

Its Not too heavy, its not too light, its just Dead Kitten Parade.
