Bio

Compared to when they originally formed, Dead Men Tell No Tales is barely recognizable. Led by lead vocalist/guitarist Matthew Dalton, the band have been through many ups and downs in their short time span.

Original named Between Faith, the group began playing numerous local shows in the Hamilton area, quietly making a name for itself. 2013 proved to be a challenging year for the band and as a result, they went on a break of several months. During this time, Matt slowly began assemble the band he always wanted with the members he wanted.

First, he got his friend and fellow music teacher Jesse Elliott (ex- Vivid Eye) to join as lead guitarist. Having been friends and contemporaries for a few years, Matt knew getting Jesse in the band was a definite step in the right direction, with his wild stage energy and deeply rooted punk rock influence.

Next up, the group drafted Taylor Shannon, who Matt knew from studying jazz music with him at Mohawk College. A real boom-batter of a drummer with a sharp sense of musical composition and arrangement, Taylor is also a member of the Oakville based rock band Amber Damned.

Jonas Pearson Paavola proved to be the last cog in the Dead Men Tell No Tales machine. With a background in ska, funk and r&b music and currently studying jazz as well, Jonas’ bass playing brings a level of musical sophistication that elevates the band’s musicality and tightness to an entirely differently level.

This new and improved lineup of Dead Men Tell No Tales, with Matt’s lineup of hand picked members, is set to begin recording their first two-song single in the coming weeks with producer Brent Wirth (Thought Beneath Film). The first song, ‘The Martyr’, is one of the first songs ever written by the band. A quick burst of heavy rock energy, it’s stood the test of time thus far and is a regular set list addition. The second song is the most recent addition to the band’s catalogue, called ‘The Sky Is Falling’. A heavy swing number, this song is likely to become and remain a set staple for the band for years to come.

After recording their single, the band have an e.p. or a full length album in their sights. The future is bright for this hard and heavy 4 piece of rock and roll power.
