Dead Smiling Pirates hail from Copenhagen, Denmark and they set sail on the musical oceans for a life of music piracy in the summer of 2005. This power packed trio plays catchy alternative rock filled with an eclectic mix of influences highlighted by lots of tight breaks, trashy guitar riffs, and punk influenced vocals. They back up their sound with attitude focusing on the irony of life, and lyrics about egoism, youth, work, ethics, and beyond.
This take on life is bound to appeal to young and old alike, with the prerequisite being your own punk like attitude and undying nonconformist view of life itself with dead aim at the modern day corporate establishment. If you feel this way give Dead Smiling Pirates debut CD release a good listen. If you do not share the same feelings, one listen to Dead Smiling Pirates and you will be a convert ;-)
Dead Smiling Pirates are a dynamic trio consisting of Kim Burmeister (vocals/ guitars), Erik Aaberg (drums), and Lasse Hansen (bass).
Kim began his musical voyage as a drummer then at the age of 15, he got his first guitar, and the drums began to collect dust. He has utilized the six-string as his main instrument for composing songs ever since. Kim’s sound is primarily punk rock and he uses that as a vehicle for his razor sharp sardonic point of view.
Erik got an early start as a drummer playing in various bands, always keeping an open mind to new inroads of musical styles while developing a distinctive blues sound that remains detectable in his playing to this day. Erik has combined all of his years and efforts into a powerful style of playing that supports and compliments the Dead Smiling Pirates hard driving sound.
Lasse picked up a bass at age of 16 and never looked back. He fell in love with experimental music and played in many art-rock and reggae acts before he started playing bass with Dead Smiling Pirates. Lasse is the perfect match for Erik’s aggressive attacking style and he completes the other half of the rhythm section that Kim depends on for his brawny guitar riffs to take hold.
The three pirates pump out their alternative rock sound out one track after another keeping your attention and interest from start to finish.
DEBUT ALBUM "DEAD SMILING PIRATES" (2007)
Dead Smiling Pirates debut album is produced by the former Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen and CD Baby Inc. distributes it worldwide. The album is available to over 2400 CD stores in 42 countries (through Super D Inc.) and 100's of digital outlets (iTunes, eMusic, etc.).
WINNER OF THE COLLEGE CREDIT CONTEST
The single "Strictly Ballroom" won the College Credit contest on Broadjam.com in november 2006. It's going to be included on the College Credit compilation CD and played on community and college radio stations in USA.
SELECTED FOR THE SONICBIDS LISTEN UP VOL. 3 CD
In november 2006 the single "Strictly Ballroom" was one of the 17 songs (out of 500+) selected for the Sonicbids Listen Up Volume 3 compilation CD that is going to be distributed to thousands of promoters, as part of Sonicbids' Holiday package, as well as from Sonicbids booths at music industry events.
