Discography

September '06 - The Three Diatribes EP
Came highly recommended by Dublin's indie music shop Road Records who placed it on Nokia's international music store (www.musicrecommenders.com)

April '07 - 'All Together Now/The Madman' single
Received good regional radio support outside Dublin and won Jackie Hayden of Hotpress's 'pick of the fortnight' merit

November '07 - 'Falling Asleep/Morning Running' single
Further broadened the range of DJs playing our music around the country and got us onto the IMRO showcase tour and 2FM Tomorrow Tour

March '08 - 'An Ape Odyssey' single as free download
Not released to radio but nonetheless continues to be downloaded consistently. We think it's nice in this age of i-pods for people to have immediate access to something of ours if they hear about us

September '08 - 'Let Them All Talk' single as free download
We're gonna get this one out to DJs and journalists everywhere as promo and give it away free. It's a big radio-friendly tune and we're looking forward to people hearing it

February '09 - Next EP
Sessions are almost complete on this and to be honest we wish we could just put this out there in the morning, we love it

Bio

The Deaf Animals... We've been working tirelessly ever since our inception in early '06. The band originally started out as a three-piece with the intention of three best mates just partying and making as much of a racket as possible. We quickly tired of noisenoisenoise however and started to explore the other extreme. Alex joined the band as a second guitarist in late '07 which has allowed us to expand significantly both our live sound and our studio ambitions. Right now, we want to write the biggest songs our tiny minds can imagine, music that can fill venues and captivate the imagination. We never want to stop improving the quality of our output, and we're in this for the long haul.

Since Alex joined the band we've played over thirty gigs and practised like bastards to build a solid musical understanding between the four of us. In the past year we've focused our gigging energies on playing Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Limerick and our hometown of Waterford as much as possible to establish a reliable fan base within the south of the country. Earlier this year we played a leg of both the 2fm Tomorrow Tour and the IMRO showcase (where the entire venue was brought to complete silence by our closing tune!).

Our music has been described by Limerick FM's Alan Jacques as 'impossible to describe, and I mean that as the best possible compliment!' All DJ sycophantry aside, we write big, ambitious melodic rock tunes and can best be filed somewhere between Radiohead and Modest Mouse. The most distinctive aspect of our sound is Joe Harney's vocals and lyrics; he's an empassioned cynic with a remarkable directness to his lyrical and vocal delivery. We've been working constantly with producer Martin Quinn, whose belief in us is pushing us on to keep writing and recording bigger and better material.

As a band, we've had a lot of fun over the past couple years and intend to keep it that way. We're all best mates. We believe that the whole world is fucked and there's nothing can be done about it except just kick back and have fun. We've survived band room fires and minor skirmishes with the law. We've way too much to say for ourselves when given the chance. The remainder of our year will be spent (in this order) finishing the recording sessions on a seven track EP due early next year, releasing another tune to free download in September to keep our output ticking over and spending the final months gigging like madmen.
