"Number Seven Top Unsigned Hometown Heroes"

We were voted number seven top unsigned Hometown Hero for January 2011. Here is what our article said.

THE STORY SO FAR:
"Formed early last year by brothers Adam (vocals/guitar) and Eric (drums) Markin with old friends Brandon Friedel (guitar) and Tommy Parrill (bass), Dear Christie haven't been around all that long, but they've gotten the word out through local gigs and gigabytes. "The internet has played a huge role in our success," says Adam Markin. "We spend a lot of time behind a computer screen. Since we have no lives and nothing else to do, it's all good."

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM:
"Because they take pride in being just like you. "We're the same age as our fans and have the same interests," says Markin. "That makes it super-easy to make a connection." While the songs on their debut EP First Things First touch a variety of genres from The All-American Rejects' arena rock to early-'00s emo, the underlying theme is unmistakable. "[Our sound} is a smorgasbord of many different genres," says Markin but the biggest tray at the buffet is pop-rock,". - Alternative Press Magazine

Bio

In early 2010, brothers Adam and Eric Markin decided it was time to grace the public with their musical talents. After coming to this verdict, they were on the hunt for other musicians to help them assemble their band. After an extensive search, the Markin brothers fell upon other Columbus-natives Tommy Parrill and Aren Carmen. All the pieces seemingly fell into place; the only matter of business left was the creation of a band name. The name “Dear Christie” came about when Adam and Eric were writing a birthday card to their sister, Christie. Once they read over the salutation, it stuck. Now having all members together and a name, the group fused together their musical talents to create their songs.

On August 31st, 2010, Dear Christie released their first 6-track EP entitled “First Things First”. It was an instant hit among their listeners and only showed the raw potential Dear Christie had. As the band celebrated the success of their first EP, a problem rose among the members. Aren Carmen was forced to disband from the group due to personal issues involving his own future. The rest of the group and Aren still remain close and no hard feelings lie between them. There was now the question of who would take his place, but Adam had the perfect candidate in mind. Cue the entrance of Brandon Friedel, long time friend of the Markin’s who had years of guitar playing experience under his belt.

Now that the four-piece is complete again, things are looking up. With dreams of touring and sharing their music to fans across the world, the boys work their hardest to make those dreams a reality.
