Bio
When both the founding drummer and synth player of eltro-indie band Play Action Pass parted ways in February of 2008, they requested we abandon our former moniker. It was Dakota, the bands ex-drummer's girlfriend, whose last words were: "You guys will never go anywhere!"
Despite strong roots in local hardcore acts prior to Dear Dakota (Mike and Jamey 'Dance the Collapse', Tyler Cole ‘Predator’, Eric Millsaps ‘Green On Gray’) the band maintains the objective to keep songs as catchy as possible! Dubbing themselves, "Pop-rock for the introspective", Dear Dakota's songs feature a wide variety of sounds that dare to evoke emotion through intellectual and sentimental subject matter that blend together to give the listener a unique and heart felt experience.
On May 19th, founding bassist Adam Arbitman, passed away after a performance in the bands hometown of Gainesville, FL. His death remains a tragedy and members quickly decided that continuing in his legacy was the best way to honor his memory. Dear Dakota naturally turned to solo acoustic performer and good friend Tyler Cole to fill the void. An honorary 6th member from the start, Tyler was Adam's best friend and his presence helped heal the wound and regain a new confidence and chemistry.
After sharing the stage with national acts such as Motion City Soundtrack, Straylight Run, Mayday Parade, My American Heart, Play Radio Play, The Graduate, Between the Trees, Mae, Automatic Loveletter, There for Tomorrow, and The Steve Miller Band, Dear Dakota's fan base is rapidly expanding. Sink or Swim, the band's debut EP recorded at Chango Recording Studios, (Oceana, Broadway) is filled with catchy hooks and vocal harmonies, tight rhythms, deep emotional themes, and of course…the occasional breakdown.
