Bio

Dear Suzy is a solo project by Zuzanna Juszkiewicz, a multi-instrumentalist and a singer-song-writer originating from Gdansk, Poland - who now lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dear Suzy’s compositions can be best described as a curious balance between experimentation and uniformity. She plays with the threshold of tone like with yarn, her heart suspended spins melodies with passionate integrity. Her sound is comparable to CocoRosie, it is unique in texture and wonderfully-strange as it boasts an odd-old-timey flare, march-like procession, dogmatic themes as well as experimental folk.

Dear Suzy began work on her first album, Die Hölle Orchestra, in 2010 and wrote it as an orchestral composition to commemorate familial stories. It was recorded at The Hive (Vancouver, BC) over the course of four-months in 2012. During this time, she self-published and released a novella to encompass the extra curricular text as well as imagery associated with the album. Die Hölle Orchestra is a curious coupling of New World, Canadian Motifs as well as Old World Traditions. It is atmospheric and experimental, as well as structured and orchestral.

Amy Fung, Vancouver cultural writer and critic describes Die Hölle Orchestra as:

“Haunting in that singular way, each track drops down with the weight of the black sky, harrowing and doomed. The voice resounds as the first crash hits, and the second and third soon follow. The lulling lilt of this debut album flickers, if not crackles, by the bowing strike of a sinister flint. Do you know how a sing-song feels? This is how a sing-song feels. Dear Suzy, write her a letter everyday.”

Preacher Don’t, the first track on Die Hölle Orchestra, released as a single and official music video, produced by nientenon Movement Productions, in November 2012. Die Hölle Orchestra is scheduled to release in 22 January 2013 at the Biltmore Cabaret, Vancouver, BC. Dear Suzy anticipates sharing the stage with The Lanke Swede, a solo project Ola Kluft (from The Perishers) and Sleep Letters (Andrew Harris from Bartel).
