Bio

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." II Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT
In 2000, longtime friends Joel Silva and Tim Anderson were searching for a way to bring people to the Lord through Metal. Careers and hobbies quickly took a backseat, and music and lyrics about the shattering of life's illusions started pouring out. The euphoria the duo felt after each tune was written inspired them to keep going, and they knew they wanted to share their truths about the reality of life with the world — but in a fresh, innovative way, of course. During the first year of the band, they found Orlando Castellon to play drums and help assist with the message. Shortly after that, they found Eddie Rohweller the former singer of Terrestrial Harvest to play bass. What started out as Leviathan was soon to become Debellum. With the addition of Jesse Lopez, the lineup was set and the message was beginning to take shape.

Their group name Debellum is more than just a catchy moniker. Debellum is Latin. It means war. A more frequent usage of the word means, "To have victory in war." “We are soldiers, but not soldiers of this world, soldiers of God under His command to do His work. In addition, we do not fight with guns, missiles, or hand-to-hand combat even. We fight with the divine authority of Jesus Christ through prayer and discernment to conquer the enemy who wishes to enslave us in sin, actively running away from our Lord. However, this power destroys every word, every thought that comes against the Lord and brings it into obedience. To love and serve this world with the love that Christ has instilled in our hearts. We are in the business of saving lives. It is wartime, not peacetime for us, which is why it is so important for us to share what we have with the world. To steal souls out of the grip of Satan, out of the slavery of eternal death, and into eternal life and obedience in Jesus, says Rohweller”.

The release of Legacy of Blood, their insightful, lyrically provocative and musically transcendent debut through Salvage Productions. With its innovative sound based less on concerns for commercial categorization than the various stylistic muses inspiring the band's creative lives. Combining the metal sounds from the past with the metal sounds of today, Debellum has created there own unique sound.

“'Rapture was chosen as the first single,” says Rohweller, “because there is a war going on onstage.” “It's designed around Christians realizing the battle between flesh and spirit. All of our daily battles with sin, adds Anderson.”

“Rapture” embodies the unique approach Debellum takes to the other 7 tracks on Legacy of Blood as well — stark, brutal honesty, presented directly to the audience, with soaring guitar riffs and pounding bass and drum lines, while exploring the realities of life. Tying in with the straightforward album title, the band digs deep to shatter the comfortable iconic illusions of mainstream society.

The sure to be controversial “Rapture” derived from various prayer verses leading the listener to the fact that Jesus will bring hope and eternal life.

With many long-term goals is place, Castellon says, “my goal is to play many great shows and to reach people at their level and to show them something positive”, Lopez, ads, “to reach people through music.” Silva’s goals is to reach other guitarists who don’t know Jesus and help them find there way. While Rohweller uses inspiration from rock legends Steve Harris, Cliff Burton and Steve Vai while his love for reggae music has expanded the harsh sound he brings to Debellum. Anderson on the other hand says he would like to use the band to “speak truth through music, send a positive message and rock the world through Metal”.
